From My View For July 24

By Staff | Jul 23, 2019

Since 2003, we have put-together a schedule booklet and Football Tab. This year is no different we are working on getting it completed, but are still waiting on one middle school

Since I’m only working part-time, to have 39-schedules ready to get published is a feat in itself, and I want to thank all the athletic directors for all the schedules. There will be more games and matches added to the schedules so make sure you keep track each week in our sports section any let us now if any games or matches to be added.

The month of August starts tomorrow and Ed Parsons and I will be working non-stop to get football previews wrote for our high school teams.

I know what we have on our plate to be ready to go to print, but I also know we are at the mercy of our coaches, boosters and athletic directors to get everything done in time to print. I understand that coaches don’t know who will be starting and where in just a few days, and we understand its almost impossible to get rosters and get pictures taken in just a few weeks, but it all works-out because the head football coaches, athletic directors and booster clubs know its all for the kids, PERIOD! Thanks.

It’s just not the football players we need to get, it’s the local bands and cheerleaders too. We will do our best to get all the rest of the Fall Teams too. We don’t have a tab for all the other Fall sports, but we still try to get previews with team photo’s, as well as individual pictures for all the sports we cover.

Sometimes we can’t get to every team as quickly as we like, but we still try, be patient. Golf and soccer open their Fall seasons with matches in early August. Volleyball don’t begin their practices until a little later than all the rest.

The Fall season is so busy, not just to the sports writers, but to the hard-working coaches who don’t get much of a summer break, as well as the athletic directors. They don’t always get the credit they deserve. However, they seem to get it done year after year.

To let people know our dead-line is August 2 for schedules, while the Football Tab is August 12. The first practice begins Aug. 5th, we will be coming around for team and individual shots. We also need cheer leading and band team pictures to go into the football tab. I hope, that all the cheer leading advisers as well as the band directors read this column and help me get the photo’s we will need.

I heard through the grape-vine that only 15 bodies are going out for football this season at Magnolia and a little more than that at Valley high schools. I hope that is not the case. These are two of the area’s top football communities. I was told there was only a few more bodies at Tyler Consolidated, and that would leave Hundred and Paden City as the top cream of the crop in numbers in Wetzel County.

I hope that is just what I said, through the grape-vine. Whatever the case maybe, I’m sure the coaching staff will do their best with whatever the numbers may be.
