There was a large turnout in Hannibal for the 21st annual River Cheer Clinic as more than 70 future cheerleaders participated. The River Varsity Cheerleaders have had a very busy start to their year. June 18th through the 21st they held their annual River Cheer Clinic. Over 70 future cheerleaders from around the valley participated in the spirited clinic.

The girls learned cheers, dances, sideline chants, tumbling and jumps. The Varsity looks forward every year to teaching the next generation of cheer athletes. June 25-27 the Varsity Cheerleaders participated in Universal Cheerleaders Association camp. They learned numerous cheers, dances and sideline chants. Three Varsity cheerleaders were selected as “UCA All American.” Lindsey Huffman, Elaina Longwell, and Rylie Hess were selected and offered opportunities to cheer in London’s New Year’s Day parade as well as Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The squad as a whole was awarded a “Superior” trophy which qualifies them to attend this year’s Citrus Bowl in Orlando. They’re excited to share everything they’ve learned with the River fans at this year’s “Meet the Team” and regular season games. River Cheerleaders are funded by the generous support of the community. They’ve already sold pizzas, held a bake sale, car wash, chicken dinner and “Night at the Races.”

They are currently looking for businesses to sponsor this year’s “Touchdown T-shirts.” Cheerleading has no “off season” these young ladies work tirelessly to support River Athletics year around.

River Cheerleaders would like to thank Pilot Nation for your continued support.
