Local Athletes Compete in OVAC All-Star Games
Area all-star selected to participate in the OVAC Softball and Baseball Classic June 3 at the J.B. Chambers Complex was Ashley Tharp and Ashlyn Piekarski from Magnolia, as well as Livi Rose from River each would have participated in the All-Star Charity Softball game, pitting the West Virginia Mountaineers headed by Coaches Butch Varner from Clay-Battelle, Chris Conti of Madonna and Pat Durkin of Wheeling Park, while the Ohio Buckeyes All-Stars headed by Gus Dimarzia of Steubenville, Rob Gallentine of St. Clairsville and Darrin Young of Harrison Central would have competed before the Wetzel Chronicle went to press.
However, the Lady Blue Eagles graduated senior Ashley Tharp was named Player of the Year in OVAC Class-3A.
Other players winning Player of the Year in their respective classes were, Madalena Daugherty of Madonna; Caitlyn Kassay of Clay-Battelle in OVAC Class-2A; Taylor Gallentine of St. Clairsville in OVAC Class-4A; and Madison Fields of Steubenville in OVAC Class-5A.
The OVAC Baseball All-Star Classic would have competed before the Chronicle went to press.
The only area player selected to play was Patrick Mirandy of Magnolia.
Those winning Player of the Year in their respective classes were, Trin Scott of Cameron in OVAC Class-1A; Nathan Karaffa pf Toronto in OVAC Class-2A; Eli Petho of Linsly in OVAC Class-3A; Logan Fox of Meadowbrook in OVAC Class-4A; and Caleb Taylor of Morgantown in OVAC Class-5A.
