Gamble Masterful in MHS Victory Against Paden City

The Magnolia Blue Eagles scored four runs in the first inning, and Jake Gamble limited the Wildcats to a run on two hits, while striking out 12 in leading Magnolia to a 6-1 Region I, Section II opening game May 6 at George Mullett Complex.

Gamble threw three-straight balls before coming back with two straight strikes, before getting the lead-off batter to ground out. Trey Slider worked the count to 3-2 before Gamble walked him. Slider stole second and reached third before Gamble struck-out the final two batters to get out of the first without any damage.

The Blue Eagles’ Patrick Mirandy reached first on an infield single, but was dead-on-arrival as Ryan Cross gunned him down trying to steal second.

With two outs, the Eagles managed to score four runs on four hits and a walk aided by Caden Cisar’s two-RBI single; Eli Nice RBI-triple and a RBI base-hit by Jared Kocher to give the home team a 4-0 lead after one inning of play.

Things were pretty quiet through four nnings, but the Wildcats scored their only run off a walk, single, stolen base and a fielder’s-choice that scored Saxon singled and stole a base to cut the deficit to 4-1. However, the Big Blue scored one more run in the home-half on a walk, error and a two-out RBI single by Kocher.

With both Gamble and Saxon gone due to pitches thrown, Kocher entered for Gamble and set the ‘Cats down in order, including two-strikeouts in the sixth. Slider came in relief of Saxon in the bottom half and walked Mirandy on five pitches, who then stole second, raced to third on a fly-out, and scored on a RBI Cisar single for all the scoring.

Saxon took the loss from the hill for Paden City. He struck out eight and walked two, while Slider tossed an inning, striking out two and walked one. Saxon singled, doubled and stole two bases, while Jordan Stackpole added a single to lead Paden City.

Gamble got the win from the rubber, strining out 12 and walking four, while Kocher struck-out three and didn’t walk a batter. Silas McKeever paced the eight-hit Blue Eagle attack, with a double, a pair of singles and knocked in a run, while Cisar plated three on a pair of base-hits.

Nice tripled in a run, while Kocher plated a run on a pair of singles. Mirandy reached base safely on three of his four at bats, singled stole a base, walked a reached on an error, and scored a run. Matthew Gaiser walked twice and scored both times to end the Eagles statistics.

Ritchie County

defeats Magnolia 13-6

The Magnolia Blue Eagles Silas McKeever provided a pair of hits, but the Ritchie County Rebels took total control late to defeat Magnolia, 13-6 in the WVSSAC Class-A Region I, Section II contest at RCHS May 7. There no other Blue Eagle statistics in the Ritchie outing.
