River's Katie Lively works to the plate during a game against Frontier.

The Frontier Cougars scored six early runs and held off a three-run River seventh to defeat the River Pilots, 6-4, in girls softball action, May 2 in New Matamoras.

The Pilots took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but it was short- lived as the Cougars clawed three runs in the home-half to take the lead for good.

The Pilots tallied two more runs in the seventh, but it wasn’t quite enough to get past Frontier, 6-4.

Candace Caldwell singled, doubled and knocked in a pair of runs, while Josie Reed doubled, while Livi Rose, Jonayah Moeller, Katie Lively and Lindsey Huffman each had base hits for the Pilots.

Lively took the loss, she tossed 4.2 innings, striking-out four.

The Cougars Kylie Ruble got the win from the circle. She worked 6.2 innings striking out five and walking two, while Alexis Bland picked up the save. Katen Petty, Emily Beaver and Grace Rinard each had 2-hits to lead the Cougar attack.

River Defeats Caldwell, 10-6

The River Pilots scored five runs in the first inning, and withstood a four run Caldwell sixth to beat the Redskins, 10-6 May 1 in Sardis.

Katie Lively struck-out the Redskins first two batters before giving up a single to start the game, while getting a harmless pop out the Riley Lollathin at second.

However, the hot-hitting Pilots would counter with five runs in the home-half when Lollathin opened with a base-hit, while Lindsey Huffman pounded a grounder that went for a Redskin error that scored Lollathin. Candace Caldwell reaches first on a grounder, moving Huffman to third and both scored on a Livi Rose single. After two-straight outs, Jonayah Moeller singles before Josie Reed launched a 2-RBI double to give the hosts a 5-0 lead after one inning of play.

Both teams scored two-runs in the second, while the Pilots added single runs in the fourth, fifth and six innings. The Redskins scored 4-times in the sixth off, five singles and a double to close the gap a bit, but Rose relieved Lively, who had recorded four strike-outs from the circle in getting the win, while Rose picked up the save.

Rose and Lollathin each pounded two hits with Rose knocking in three RBIs, while Riley knocked in two. Reed doubled, and plated two runs, while Moeller, Livbely and Katie Refener each had a base-hit for the Lady Pilots.
