Pilots Fall in Extra Innings to ’Rocks

The Barnesville Shamrocks’ Erin Hannahs reached on an error and later scored on a walk-off single by Cayleigh Reynolds in the bottom of the eighth to beat River, 3-2 April 24 in Sardis.

The winning pitcher for the Lady Shamrocks was Madison Detling who pitched in relief, while Reagan Hanlon tossed seven innings, struck-out seven and didn’t walk a batter. She also drilled a solo home-run, while Reynolds paced the Lady ‘Rocks with a pair of base-hits and two RBIs.

The Pilots was shut-out for six innings, before sending it to extra innings when Jonayah Moeller reached first on a single, and scored after a Katie Refener single and a Barnesville error. Refener knotted the game at 2-2 on a nifty suicide squeeze by Katie Lively.

Lively took the hard-fought game, struck-out 10. Moeller paced the Pilots with two-hits, while Refener singled and had a sacrifice. Lively added an RBI on the squeeze, while Josie Reed stole a base and Candace Caldwell was hit-by-a-pitch.

River 12, Valley 0

River 10, Valley 0

The River Pilots scored early and often as they defeated the Valley Lumberjills 12-0 and 10-0 in a doubleheader April 23 in Sardis in softball action.

Livi Rose and Katie Lively picked up the wins for the Pilots, while Megan Brown and Elizabeth Conley took the losses for Valley.

Riley Lollathin, Candace Caldwell, Katie Refener and Elizabeth McConn each had 4-hits to lead the Pilots, with Caldwell and Refener each knocking in 4-runs, and McConn and Lollathin, 3 and 2, respectively in the double-header.

In addition, Jonayah Moeller, singled and tripled, and had three RBI, while Lindsey Huffman doubled twice and knocked in a pair. Lively and Rose each singled for River.

Jamey West, Sydney Bucher, Rachel Bates and Miriam Kinczel each singled for the Lumberjills.

Monroe Central 5, River 3

The River Pilots’ Candace Caldwell and Jonayah Moeller each smacked a home-run, but it wasn’t enough to get past Monroe Central, 5-3, April 22, at Sardis.

The Pilots Livi Rose and the Seminoles Giesey was hooked up in a pitching duel, but the Lady ‘Noles scratched out a run in the fourth, and scored twice in both the fifth and sixth innings to give them a 5-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Kristen Friday did most of the damage for the Seminoles, drilling a two-run home-run while Allee Zwick drilled a single and a double.

River 12, Beallsville 0

The River Pilots pounded out 16 hits and Katie Lively struck-out six and scattered two-hits in leading the River Pilots to a 12-0 drubbing of the Beallsville Blue Devils April 22 at Sardis.

The Pilots scored two runs in the first and six more in the second to put the game away. River finished off the mercy-rule shortened game with a run in the third and the last three in the fourth.

Riley Lollathin had the big bat for the Pilots, was a home-run shy of hitting for the cycle, while Katie Refener doubled and singled three times while plating three runs.

Livi Rose singled, doubled and knocked in a run, while Jonayah Moeller and Josie Reed singled and tripled.

Moeller drove in two runs.
