Magnolia’s Patrick Mirandy takes a throw from his catcher to get a hustling Matt Saxon.

Magnolia’s Patrick Mirandy limited the homestanding Monroe Central Seminoles to only five hits, striking out nine and walking three in leading Magnolia to its second straight victory with a 4-1 win April 18, in Woodsfield.

With Mirandy on his game from the mound, it was Silas McKeever and Caden Cisar leading the way from the plate, each singling twice and knocking in a run.

In addition, Woodson London doubled in a run, while Eli Nice drove in a run with a base hit.

Wade Stoehr paced the Seminoles with seven strike-outs in going the distance, while the Eagles Brendon Mirandy got the save for the Blue Eagles.

Magnolia whips Wildcats

Magnolia plated four runs in the bottom of the seventh Wednesday, April 17 in New Martinsville, on its way to a 5-4 come-from-behind win over Paden City. The Wildcats grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and added two in the fifth for a 3-0 lead. Magnolia got one in the bottom of the inning to cut it to 3-1. Neither team scored in the sixth, but Paden City added a run in the seventh to go up 4-1 and seemed to be in control.

The Blue Eagles, however, took advantage of the Wildcats’ pitching in the seventh and plated four runs on three hits with no one out to grab the win. Jake Gamble threw six innings, striking out 14 batters, before giving way to B. Mirandy in the last frame for the win. Matt Saxon struck out 10 batters in six innings for the ‘Cats.

Clayton Thomas came on in relief of Saxon in the seventh and gave up two hits and two runs before Ryan Cross took over and got the loss, giving up a hit for the game winning run. Thomas had two hits in three at bats and drove in two runs for the Cat’s who fell to 12-10 with the loss.

Shadyside takes down Blue Eagles

The Shadyside Tigers scored 11 runs in the top of the third to break open a close game, and went on to defeat the Blue Eagles, 20-3, in high school baseball action on April 16 at George Mullett Field in New Martinsville.

The Blue Eagles jumped in front, 3-0, after one frame, while the Tigers tallied one in the second before the 11-run third. Shadyside topped the mercy-rule shortened game with eight more runs in the fifth.

Silas McKeever took the loss for the Big Blue; struck out three and walked three. Patrick Mirandy and Caden Cisar closed things out for the Blue Eagles.

Eric Allen got the win for Shadyside; he struck out six and walked one. Ryan Florence tacked on a three-RBI single to pace the Tigers.
