Pilots Pocket tewo wins, fall to Tigers

The Barnesville Shamrocks bobbled the Pilots’ Jonayah Moeller’s groundball in the bottom of the seventh, that scored Livi Rose from the third base, to beat Barnesville, 7-6, in girls softball action on April 11 in Sardis.
The Shamrocks scored four runs in the top of the third on a double, groundout, single, groundout, and a pair of 2-RBI doubles to grab a 4-0 lead.
However, the Pilots scored three runs with two outs when Lindsey Huffman singled, raced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a Candace Caldwell double. Livi Rose knocked in Caldwell with another two-base hit and scored on a Katie Refener single.
The Pilots scored twice more in the fourth when Moeller walked and was scooted to second on a sacrifice by Josie Reed, and was held at third when Elizabeth McConn reached safely on a Shamrock error. Riley Lollathin knocked in Moeller with a double, and McConn scored on a Lindsey Huffman sacrifice fly to grab a 5-4 lead.
However, Barnesville scored two runs in the fifth on a single, two errors and fielder’s choice, and a sacrifice fly to retake the lead at 6-5.
River knotted the game at 6-6 when Rose singled and was sacrificed to second by Refener. Katie Lively hit into a fielder’s choice, with Rose scoring on a Barnesville error.
Lively got the win from the circle; she struck out five and walked one, while Rose paced the Pilots’ nine-hit attack with a single and a pair of doubles and one run batted in. Caldwell singled, doubled and knocked in a run, while Refener and Huffman each singled in a run. Moeller singled and beat out a grounder that scored the winning run.
River Scores 7-Runs In Third Inning To Beat Paden City
The River Pilots broke-open a close game with seven runs in the third inning, while Katie Lively limited Paden City to an infield single in the bottom of the third in a 10-0 River shutout April 10 at Paden City Park.
The Lady Pilots opened the first when Lindsey Huffman drilled a one-out double and scored on a Livi Rose double to grab a 1-0 lead.
The Pilots added a pair of runs in the second when Sofie Myers belted a two-out single and raced to third on a Riley Lollathin single; both scored on a Paden City error.
With Lively keeping the Wildcats off the bases in the first two innings, the Pilots would put the game away in the top of the third with seven runs on eight hits, a walk and a HBP, with the big hit coming from Lollathin with a two-RBI triple.
Lauren Little broke-up Lively’s no-hit bid with a one-out infield single.
Lively struck out three and didn’t walk a batter to get the win from the circle, while adding an RBI-single from the plate for a good night’s work. Lollathin singled and had a two-RBI triple, while Candace Caldwell singled and doubled twice and knocked in a run. Livi Rose continued to contribute, smacked a pair of doubles and knocked in a pair of teammates.
In addition, Myers singled twice and drove in a run, while Huffman doubled. Jonayah Moeller added a two-RBI single, while Josie Reed drilled a single for all the Pilots hits.
Shadyside Sinks River Pilots, 13-9 In Slugfest
The Shadyside Tigers scored seven runs in the first inning and held off a gallant River comeback to win, 13-9, April 8 in Shadyside.
The Pilots’ Riley Lollathin smacked a home run to open the game before the Tigers tallied their seven first-inning runs.
However, the Lady Pilots added single runs in the second and third inning before scoring two runs in the fifth to close to within two runs. Candace Caldwell singled and Livi Rose reached on an error, and both scored on a double by Katie Refener and a single by Katie Lively.
But the Lady Tigers scored four more times in the home-half to up their advantage to 11-5. The Lady Pilots came roaring back to score four runs in the top of the sixth to pull to within a couple runs at 11-9 as Elizabeth McConn opened with a single; Lollathin reached on a fielder’s choice, before Lindsey Huffman walked. River would then score four runs on RBI singles by Caldwell, Livi Rose and Refener.
Shadyside added two more in the bottom of the sixth and held River scoreless in the seventh to get the win.
Refener paced the 17 River hits with a single, double and three RBI, while Rose doubled and singled twice and had two RBI. Lively helped herself at the plate, doubled and singled twice, while knocking in a pair of runs. Jonayah Moeller singled and doubled and knocked in a run, while Lollathin smacked a solo home run.
In addition, Lindsey Huffman singled, while Caldwell smacked three singles and plated a run. Josie Reed doubled and McConn singled.
Shadyside was paced by Haleigh Osman with three RBI, while Kiley Jo Baker and Izzy Swords each belted a pair of RBI singles. Sydni Destifanes singled and tripled, while Holly Butler singled twice.
