Flannery scored 23 points in limited action, and the River Pilot defense held the Toronto Red Knights to single-digit scoring in all four quarters to win the Division IV Co-Sectional Championship, 60-20, Feb. 23 inside the RL Potts Gymnasium.

After holding the Lady Red Knights to nine points in the opening period, the Pilot defense held Toronto to only five points in the second period, while scoring 22 points in both periods to hold a 44-14 advantage at halftime.

The Pilot starters played briefly in the second half, and the rest of the club put the hammer down, holding the Knights to a pair of two-pointers, as well as two free throws in the second half, to get the win.

Following Flannery’s 23 points were Livi Rose and Riley Lollathin with eight points each. Rose connected from downtown twice, and Lollathin, once.

Mikenzie Cieszeski drilled two from long-range, while Alli Long scored a deuce and a pair of free throws. Josie Reed and Candace Caldwell each swished a triple, while Carsyn Reynolds scored a deuce and a free throw. Hannah Straub ended the River scoring with a two-pointer.

River Pilots Roll 57-11 In Sectional Opener

Lauren Flannery Leads Way With 17 Points

The River Pilots, fresh off a second straight OVAC Class 2A title, proved they were primed and ready to make some noise in their Division IV Sectional, beating the Frontier Lady Cougars, 57-11, inside the RL Potts Gymnasium on Feb. 21.

The Lady Pilots had a slow start offensively, but after forcing countless Frontier turnovers and working the offensive board – with the likes of Lauren Flannery, Carsyn Reynolds and Ali Long doing the bulk of the work in the paint in the first half, it would only be a little while before they would start hitting their shots.

And hitting their shots they did, as Livi Rose swished all three of her made bonus bombs from beyond the arc in the first half. With the Pilots playing defense like their life depended on it, River held the Cougars to five points on only 2-5 shots taken in the first quarter, while the offense racked up 19 points.

The second period was about the same as the opening period, with the Pilots scoring 19 points. The defense limited Frontier to four points to grab a 38-9 lead at intermission.

The third period play was all River as the Pilots scored only 12 points, but would hold the out-manned Lady Cougars to no points in the third period, and only a mere two points in the fourth period. River scored seven points in the fourth.

Flannery led all scorers with 17 points in limited action, but played her role as a distributor and defender. Rose tallied 14 points, and Long contributed 10 points.

Kylie Piatt came off the bench to net five points, including a three-ball. Riley Lollathin scored three points. Reynolds netted a deuce, while Josie Reed was 2-2 at the charity stripe. Candace Caldwell and Mikenzie Cieszeski each sank a free thow.
