The Valley Lumberjills’ Jenna Dallison had a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds, but it wasn’t quite enough to get by Clay-Battelle, 49-46, in girls high school basketball action on Jan. 23 inside the Lumberjacks’ gymnasium.

The Clay-Battelle Cee Bees took charge early in the opening period, scoring the game’s first five points, -including a triple. But, Dallison caught fire with back-to-back-to-back baskets at the halfway point to give Valley a one-point lead.

However, the Cee Bees tallied the next seven points, to double-up the ‘Jills at 12-6, before Dallison tallied four of the next six points with nice feeds from Caitlyn Underwood and Jamey West.

After a short break, Clay-Battelle turned things around in a hurry and took a 19-12 lead after one period of play.

The Lumberjills looked like they were going to run Clay-Battelle out of the gym after the first minute of play in the second stanza with a 17-5 run – including a 11-0 run to end the first half on top, 30-27, at the break. Underwood led the charge with eight points, including the ‘Jills’ only basket in the game from beyond the arc.

Valley continued to light it up, scoring the game’s first five points that would end a 22-5 run.

However, the Cee Bees wouldn’t give in and slowly got back into the game, going on a 13-3 run of their own to get to within 38-37.

The Lumberjills’ Rachel Bates opened the fourth with a deuce, but the Cee Bees’ Rylee Burnette swished a deuce and a three-ball to tie things up at 42-42. Burnette and Alivia Ammons started a 7-0 run before Dallison stopped the bleeding with a pair of two-pointers.

The Cee Bees gave the ‘Jills a chance by missing the front end of a-one-and-one twice down the stretch, but every time the rebound would end up in the hands of a Clay-Battelle player and halted any chance of the ‘Jills to get the win.

Besides Dallison’s double-double, Underwood tallied 10 points, while Bates followed with seven markers. West, Reagan Dallison and Shyanne Moore each tacked on four points for all the Valley scoring. Burnette and Ammons scored 14 and 12 points, respectively to lead the Lady Cee Bees.
