Pilant Paces Blue Eagles Past Devils

By Staff | Dec 18, 2018

The Magnolia Blue Eagles defense was a little stingy Dec. 13 in Beallsville, limiting Beallsville to single digits in all four periods and gaining a 39-28 victory.

However, the Blue Devils’ defense was also stingy, holding the Eagles to single digits in the two middle quarters and keeping all but one player in single-digits for the whole game. However, that one player was Kyndra Pilant as she tallied 22 points and grabbed 21 rebounds for her third straight double-double of the season.

Pilant’s teammates Mady Winters and Sierra Walker each scored six points. Winters made three baskets, and Walker accounted for two baskets from three-point range. Aquera Cabral tickled the twine from beyond the arch, while Lara Ann Smith swished a two-pointer for all the Magnolia scoring.

Magnolia Girls Improve To 3-0 With 52-40 Win

The Lady Blue Eagles outscored St. Marys, 21-8, over the final 5:55 and keyed in back-to-back three-pointers by Lenieca Grimm and Aquera Cabral, leading the Magnolia Blue Eagles past St Marys, 52-40, at home on Dec. 10.

Magnolia standout Kyndra Pilant scored all the team’s eight points in the opening period to give the hosts an 8-5 lead. Teammate Sierra Walker drilled the second period’s first two buckets just inside the arch to give the Eagles a 12-5 lead early in the second period.

Lara-Ann Smith drilled a basket from well beyond the arc before the Lady Devils’ Josey Moore pick-pocketed a ball and raced down court for an easy basket. She later was fouled and made the back end of a two-shot foul to pull to 15-8.

However, Mady Winters scored back-to-back rebound put-backs, and Walker again swished one inside the arc to extend the Eagles’ lead to 21-8. The rout was on, but St. Marys’ Kylie Wright would bank one in to stop the bleeding.

Winters would score a pair of free throws to close out the scoring, but Pilant would pick up her third foul on a player-control to end the first half with the Blue and Gold up, 23-10.

Smith and Pilant got the Eagles off to a good start in the third period with back-to-back baskets, but St Marys would go on an 11-0 run to pull the Lady Devils within 27-21 at the 1:37 mark – causing a time out by Magnolia.

After the shot break, the Devils’ Addie Furr cashed in the back end of a two-shot foul. However, Pilant and Winters each put back a miss to end the third with Magnolia now leading, 31-22.

St. Marys scored the first 10 points to grab its first and only lead at 32-31. Pilant tallied two free throws, and Reagan Hale swished the front end of a two-shot foul, and Walker swished a two-pointer, before Wright pulled St Marys to within 36-34.

Cabral and Grimm then swished back-to-back bonus bombs to put the game out of reach at 42-34. However, Furr and Alexis Hashman scored the next four points to pull within four points.

The Eagles went on a 10-0 run before St Marys scored the final two points.

Pilant and Winters combined for 30 points and 27 rebounds, both earning a double-double. Pilant added three steals and three blocks, while Winters also rejected three St Marys shots.

In addition, Walker and Smith scored eight and seven points, respectively, while Grimm and Cabral each knocked down a triple. Hale made a free throw.

The Devils’ top scorer was Lara Fetty with nine points.
