Eagles’ Fivesome Honored
With the fall season winding down in a hurry, we have several athletes who enjoyed nice games last week.
With Magnolia having the only teams alive for this award, we chose several – starting with Mady Winters, Kyndra Pilant and Kayna Anderson, and ending it with Patrick Mirandy and Gage Adams.
Anderson, Winters and Pilant were each selected to the All-Tournament in the Class A State Volleyball Tournament, with Anderson collecting 82 digs and scoring nine points, with one ace.
She not only had 82 digs, she most likely had 40 saves by keeping volleys intact. She is very deserving.
Winters had an outstanding state tournament, finishing with 44 points, with 10 service perfections. She also added 62 digs, 40 kills and 16 blocks in her very first trip to Charleston.
Pilant was the glue that held the team together, along with senior Kennedy Parsons. When needing a point to break up runs, look no farther than Pilant.
She had 68 kills in the three matches, while scoring 13 points, three aces, 34 digs and seven blocks to help the Eagles win not only the state championship, but the sectional title as well as the Region I title.
Adams and Mirandy each ran the ball 20 times with Adams churning up 123 yards and one touchdown, while Mirandy tacked on 107 yards and three touchdowns in helping the Blue Eagles win their first Class A playoff game against the higher seed Pendleton County. Mirandy also was 5-7 for 19 yards on a muddy Pendleton County field.
Area athletes from Hundred, Magnolia, Paden City, River and Valley are eligible to win the Athlete of the Week title and can only do it one time until they reach playoffs, as well as conference and state tournaments.
