After picking up an early first down on their second play, on a keeper by Abe Satterfield, the Valley Lumberjacks would get picked-off a few plays later, only to have linebacker Tommy Shannon sidelined for the game from a hit from a Doddridge blocker. Shannon would not come back into the game due to concussion-type symptoms.
After a personal foul that pushed back the Bulldogs 15 yards, the leading West Virginia runner Hunter America ripped off a 44-yard touchdown scamper to give the visitors a 7-0 lead.
The undefeated and state-ranked Bulldogs weren’t done, as they went on to score 21 points in the first two periods before calling off the ‘Dogs for a 42-0 win Oct. 19, on homecoming night at Tom West Field.
America finished the game with 184 of the Bulldogs’ 302 rushing yards and three touchdowns to lead the way.
The Lumberjacks’ Gavin Streets paced the Valley Lumberjacks with 67 yards, while Ethan Fluharty supplied 12 yards. Satterfield added four yards, while George Brown and David Sell each tacked on three yards.
Satterfield completed one pass to Richard Leek for nine yards, while the ‘Dogs completed 3-4 for 89 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, the ‘Jacks limited the state’s top offense unit to 11 first downs, while moving the chains six time themselves. Hunter Woods led the way with seven tackles, while Wyatt Dallison made six tackles.
The Lumberjacks will visit Tyler Consolidated Friday night with kick-off scheduled for 7 p.m., while Doddridge will visit the Williamstown Yellowjackets, also at 7 p.m.
