Mud Bowl Race Moved Across River to Hannibal

In a nine-team field, the River Pilots’ Livi Beard (20:24) finished second to the Doddridge Bulldogs’ Desirae Schoonover (20:11), and the Lady Eagles Karina Patel (22:19) and Aubrey Hall (23:12), to lead the Lady Pilots (34 points) to a second-place finish behind Doddridge (23-points) in the annual MHS Mud Bowl Cross Country Meet on Sept. 15 at the Pilots Hannibal Locks and Dam. The meet was moved from Magnolia’s territory because of high waters at the former New Martinsville Golf Course.
Other area runners finishing the River course were Lady Pilots Camryn Caldwell (22:31), Kylie Piatt (24:42), Sophie Meyers (27:31), Julianne Taylor (29:23), Adrianna Carpacs-Brown (29:32) and Jenna Tucker (31:37.
The Hundred Hornets’ Rachel Sneddon (24:14) placed ninth, with teammates Destiny Eastham (27:38) and Iris Woodward (28:55) followed.
The Lady Wildcats’ Arissa Kline (31:30) was the top runner for Paden City, while Paige Leonard (35:10) and Hannah Loy (35:15) each finished behind.
The Valley Lumberjacks’ Emma Beatty (35:05) was the only runner for Valley.
In an eight-team boys cross country meet, Doddridge had the three runners take top honors, and four of the top five to win going away with 16 points, with Brooke finishing second and Wheeling Central third.
The Pilots’ Britton DeGarmo (19:26) finished seventh, with teammates Cooper Brown (20:45) and Justin Fisher (20:54) finished the River squad.
For the Hundred Hornets team, Cole Miller (22:17), Joseph White (22:18), Christian Fluharty (25:18) and Travis McCoy (27:52) each participated.
Austin Pyles (22:25) was the top runner for Magnolia, while teammate Nathan Schupbach (24:43) finished. Kyle Carpenter (23:00) was the Paden City Wildcats’ top runner, with Tobin McEldowney (26:01), Brandon Hizer (26:02) and Paxton Pierce (29:16) following.
