Hayes, Beard Victorious At Quinet 5K

Dalton Hayes tore up the Ninth Annual Jim Quinet Memorial 5K Run/Walk in downtown New Martinsville with a run of 19:24, while New Martinsville’s Phil Bowser finished a close second at 20:01on July 28.
River Pilot’s cross country and track star Olivia Beard came in fourth at a time of 20:43, and was the first female to cross the finish line. The Blue Eagles’ Karina Patel finished fifth overall, second in the female division.
MHS sophomore Silas McKeever was third overall and first in the 10-19 men race, finishing in 20:27, while Kayla Hizer finished seventh overall and won the female 20-29 race at 21:37.

River track and cross-country standout Olivia Beard stays with the top male runners, capturing the women’s 5K run in a time of 20:43. She was fourth overall.
Holly Johnson (35:02), Hannah Ruble (37:32) and Cyla Jeffers (42:27) went one-two-three in the woman’s nine years and under race, respectively. Gwyn Napier (22:12), Madeline Hilvers (23:33) and Mara Beard (25:48) ran first, second, and third in the women’s 10-19 age bracket, respectively. Candace Kesselring (23:28) was second and Landyn Lucas (25:44) third behind Hizer in the 20-29 womens race.
Kathryn Isaly (24:28), Sarah Shepherd (25:19) and Jessica Bennett (28:09) were first, second, and third, respectively in the womens 30-39 race, as was Amy Shreve (23:06), Valerie Fisher (23:30) and Kayl McCort (30:27) in the women’s 40-49 race. In the women’s 50-59 division, Lisa Stackpole (25:18) was first, Angi McDonald (25:21) second, and Candy Block (31:08) third.
In the 60-69 women’s, Linda Coleman finished at 37:54, good enough for first place.
Emily Beard (25:07) was the top runner in the nine and under men’s division, while Israel Winfrey (34:45) came in second, and Gideon Winfrey (35:00) was third. Matt Fouty (21:23) followed McKeever for second place in the 10-19, while Wyatt Jons (22:55) was third. Magnolia alumni and Wheeling Jesuit basketball star Preston Boswell (24:31) won the 20-29 age bracket, while Timothy Smith (25:16) finished second, and Jared Wright (29:21) was third.
In the men’s 30-39 results, Phil Bowser was first (20:01), Aaron Riggenbaugh (22:19), was second and Michael Caneen (23:18) was third. Tony Huggins (26:04) was the top runner in the 40-49 brackets, with Mark Day (43:45) second. In the 50-59 age bracket, Dave Howell (22:22) crossed the finish line first, while Rodney McWilliams (24:01) and Pat Gramlich (25:15) followed in second and third, respectively. In the men’s 60-69 run, Richard Klempa (25:05) was first, Lyle Rawlings (26:16) second, and Pat Calmbacher (29:18) third.
In the women’s nine and under walk, Madison McKnight (53:40) was first, while Halle Barcus (50:28) was the top walker in age 10-19. In the 20-29 women’s walk, Brittany Mason (51:22) took top honors, while Jessica Taylor (51:23) was second and Alexis Titus (was a close third.
In the 30-39 age bracket, Amy Richard (39:09) took first, while Amanda Kimble (39:13 was second, and Ashton Smith (42:15) was third.
In the women’s 40-49 age bracket, Barb Blain (41:16) was first, Stacy Phillips (49:57) finished second, and Regina Reynolds (51:06) third, respectively. Brenda Botizan (39:19) won a very heated womens 50-59 age bracket, with Annie Isaly (40:50) was second, and Julie Ledergerber (41:17) third. In the women’s 60-69 age bracket, Karen Meeks (35:50) took top honors, while Lois Ebeling (36:29) finished right behind, and Jeanne Barnes (39:33) third. In the 70- and over Janet Webber (42:43) was first, Eleanor Young (45:07) second, and Barbra Fitzsimmons (52:02) third.
Todd Barcus (50:20) was the top walker in the men’s 30-39 age bracket, while Bob Cicogna won the 40-49 men’s race, with JC Kimble (38:48) second. In a heated men’s 50-59 bracket, Ken Hissam (38:48) was first, Blake Header (40:50) second, and Ken Hawkins (44:41) third.
In a huge 60-69 men’s race, Randy Nutter (35:06) was the top guy, while Douglas Parrish (39:30) was runner-up, and Steve Pallisco (43:37) was third.
In the young men in the 70 and over bracket, Roy Thomas (35:39) was first, Jim Colvin (42:02) second and James Fitzsimmons (48:44) was third.
Katie Hamrick of Magnolia was the recipient of the $1,000 Jim Quinet Memorial Scholarship. The Jim Quinet Memorial 5K run/Walk race will continue next year on the same last Saturday in July at 9:30 in downtown New Martinsville.
