Magnolia Boys Win OVAC

Photo by Teran Malone The Magnolia boys’ track team finished first during the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference’s championship meet, in the Class AAA?division.

Blue Eagle senior Brooks Parsons and sophomore Liza Clegg won four events and three events, respectively, to help the Magnolia boys track team finish first in the OVAC Class-AAA and the girls runner-up May 5 at St. Clairsville.

Parsons won the high jump with a leap of 6-0 and claimed first in the 400-meter dash in 52.17. He along with his 4×100 meter relay team in 44.92, and the 400-meter team in 3:33.21 each took first place to help Magnolia win the boys championship with 96 points, while Buckeye Trail and Union Local was second and third with 86 points each.

“I am very proud of how we performed throughout the week,” Magnolia Head Boys Track Coach Travis Emch said. “We came hungry (Saturday). We set this goal pre-season, and we knew what we were capable of and we made a statement.”

Steubenville Catholic held of Shenandoah 92-76, while Shadyside finished with 74 points in the OVAC Class-AA boys title, while River finished with 28 points. Hundred finished with 6 points and Paden City, 2 points.

In the Girls OVAC Class-AAA, Wheeling Central won with 116 points, while Magnolia finished with 106 points. In Class AA/A, Linsly won with 94 points, while Hundred had 20 points, Paden City had 14 points and River had 8 points.

The Magnolia girls’ track team finished second during the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference’s championship meet, in the Class AAA?division.

Jakob Barrows was also a winner in the Class-AAA boys discus with a toss of 124-8, as well as the Eagles shuttle team in 1:04.74. The Blue Eagles Jack Booth (18-4) finished second in the long jump, as well as in the 300-meter hurdles (42.60). Jakob Barrows (44-3) also claimed a second place in the shot put, as well as the 4×800 meter relay team (8:41.30) who lost by .20 to Barnsville. Also scoring for Magnolia was Spencer Shephard (2:13.74) in the 800-meter run, who finished fourth.

Cooper Brown (50.85) of River finished first in the 400-meter dash, while he was a very close second place in the 100 meter dash (11.99-11.78). Brown also was fourth in the 200-meter dash. In the boys 300-meter hurdles, the Pilots’ Alex Rufener (44.19) finished third.

The Paden City 4×110 meter shuttle relay team finished fourth (1:07.74).

Magnolia’s Liza Clegg won the 100-meter hurdles (18.07), 300-meter hurdles (52.56) and was in the shuttle team that also placed first (1:14.73).

Kyndra Pilant (35-8)and Mady Winters (33-8) were first and second, respectively, in the shot-put, while Winters (95-7) placed second and Pilant (94-6) third in the discus.

Aubrey Hall (6:111.21) finished second in the 1,600-meter run, while teammate Karina Patel (6:16.47) was third. Patel (13:13.80) also placed second in the 3,200-meter run. Kennedy Parsons (1:03.60) also placed second in the 400-meter dash for Magnolia.

The Magnolia girls 4×400 meter relay team (4:43.05) placed third, while the 4×100 meter relay team finished fourth (57.22), as well as their 4×200 meter relay team (1:56.99).

The Lady Hornets’ Katherine Henderson (5-0) got first in the high jump, while teammate Emily Metz (4-6) took fourth place. Henderson (14-9) finished third in the girls long jump, while the Paden City Wildcats’ Abbe Stackpole (13-9) finished fourth.

Stackpole (13.29)won the girls 100 meter dash, while the Lady Pilots’ Carmen Hinerman (50.80) finished second in the 300-meter hurdles.
