Eagles Take Two From Knights
Magnolia’s Ashley Tharp struck-out 19 Tyler Silver Knight batters in a double header to help the Eagles beat Tyler, 8-5 and 5-0, in a sweep April 18 at Tyler Consolidated.
In the opener, the Blue Eagles scored three times in the opening stanza when Kayna Anderson opened the game with a walk, took third on a Paige Brill double, and scored on a Tharp double. Brill and Tharp each scored on an Ashlyn Piekarski two-RBI double to grab a quick 3-0 lead.
Tharp mowed down the first three Knight batters with a one-two-three first with two strike-outs. In the third frame, Magnolia tacked on four runs on four hits and a HBP, with Via Anderson smacking a two-RBI double that gave the visitors a comfy 7-0 lead after three.
Magnolia tacked on an insurance run in the seventh on two hits and a sacrifice fly by Pilant. However, the Lady Knights would score four times in the bottom of the seventh on four hits, including a three-RBI home run by Madison DeVaughn to put a fear into the Lady Eagles heading into the second game of a double header.
Tharp was in total control from the beginning to the end, striking out at least one batter in every inning and three in the fifth inning to help the Eagles win, 5-0, with 11 strike-outs.
The Eagles scored three runs in the third when Lauren Anderson walked with Rian Dawson pinch-running for Lauren.
Kayna Anderson followed with a single, while Pilant brought them both in with a double. Piekarski then singled in Pilant to give Magnolia a 3-0 lead.
The Eagles scored two insurance runs in the fifth on a Brill walk, Pilant double, a RBI Piekarski single and a Via Anderson double to take a 5-0 lead.
Tharp would strike out seven of the last eight Tyler batters to give Magnolia the 5-0 shut-out.
In the double-header, Tharp struck-out 19 Tyler batters, while Pilant paced the Blue Eagle bats with a single, two doubles, and four RBIs. Piekarski added a double, three singles and knocked in a pair.
Via Andersdon had three singles and just as many doubles, while plating in a pair of RBIs.
In addition, Brill and Tharp each had a pair of singles and two doubles, while knocking in a run. Kayna Anderson and Kenna Petin singled twice and knocked in a run, while Lindsay Whiteman singled and knocked in a run.

Other Lady Eagle Happenings…
The Lady Eagles defeated Fort Frye, 8-0 on April 20 at home, with Tharp gaining the nod from the mound. She struck-out nine in the mercy-rule shortened game. At the plate, Whiteman, Tharp and Piekarski had two hits, while Alex Berger, Petin, Via Anderson, and Brill each had a hit for Magnolia.
The Toronto Red Knights won two games over the Lady Eagles April 21, 8-1 and 7-5 at home, with Piekarski losing the opener, struck-out three, and Tharp losing the second, striking-out 15.
In the two games, Kayna Anderson had a double and three singles, while Whiteman had a pair of doubles. Brill, also had a double, while Piekarski, Petin, Tharp and Lauren Anderson each has singles.
