Tharp, Magnolia Blank ’Jackets
Ashley Tharp scattered four hits, struck out eight, and didn’t walk a batter while knocking in two on two hits to lead Magnolia to an 8-0 shutout in Williamston on April 13.
Kayna Anderson opened the game with a single and scored on a Paige Brill double. Tharp followed with an RBI single and scored on an Ashlyn Piekarski one-out single. Piekarski later scored on a Yellowjacket throwing error to give the Blue and Gold a 4-0 lead.
With Tharp on her game, striking out six in the first three innings, the Eagles would give her an eight-run lead when they scored four more runs in the top of the third. Alex Berger smacked a one-out single, and Lauren Anderson and Kayna each walked to load the bases. Brill added a two-RBI double, while Tharp plated another RBI single. Tharp stole second, and Kyndra Pilant knocked her in with a single.
Magnolia had 11 hits in the mercy-rule shortened game, with Brill leading the charge with two doubles, while Tharp and Berger each added a pair of singles. Kayna Anderson, Pilant, Piekarski, Via Anderson and Kenna Petin each added singles, while Lauren Anderson walked twice and scored.
Clay-Battelle Gets The Win
The Eagles and Clay-Battelle hooked up on their second extra-inning game, but this time the win went to Clay-Battelle, 1-0, on April 11 in Cee-Bee territory.
Once again, the Eagles’ Ashley Tharp and the Cee-Bee pitcher Caitlyn Kassey were hooked up in a pitchers duel, with both limiting the other to a pair of base-hits. Tharp struck-out 10 batters and Kassey struck-out 16 in the 10-inning marathon.
Ronda Petrucci ripped a single in the fifth and belted a double; she scored with one-out in the 10th to lead the Clay-Battelle batters.
Tharp broke up the no-hitter in the ninth, and Kenna Petin lined a single in the 10th.
Eagles Defeat Rebels, 9-1
Ashley Tharp struck out 13 and walked one, while smacking a pair of hits, to lead Magnolia to a 9-1 white wash April 11 at Ritchie County High School.
Tharp drilled a one-out single in the first and scattered to third on a Kyndra Pilant double, and scored on a Ashlyn Piekarski single. Via Anderson and Kenna Petin each added RBI singles, while Lauren Anderson belted an RBI sacrifice fly to give the visitors a quick 4-0 lead.
After scoring a run in the second with singles by Alex Beger, Pilant, and a RBI ground-out by Piekarski, the Eagles put the explanation point in the seventh with four more tallies. Paige Brill and Tharp highlighted the inning with back-to-back doubles.
Besides striking out 10 Ritchie batters, Tharp walked, singled, and doubled while stealing a base and knocking in a run. Brill and Pilant each singled and doubled, while Alex Berger singled twice.
In addition, Piekarski singled, and knocked in a pair of teammates, while Petin and Kayna Anderson each singled. Via Anderson walked twice and scored both times to finish off the Blue Eagle stats.
Shadyside Tigers Nip Magnolia Blue Eagles, 8-7
Magnolia sophomore Kayla Brill was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, but it wasn’t quite enough to get past Shadyside, 8-7, in eight innings on April 10 in Shadyside.
After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Eagles scored four runs in the second when Via Anderson reached on a one-out double, followed by a walk and a HBP, and a grand-slam home-run by Kayla Brill.
The Lady Tigers tied it up in the bottom half of the third on two-hits, two Eagle errors and a walk, to even things up at 4-4. Shadyside took the lead in the fourth with one hit and two errors.
The Eagles tacked on a pair with the help of a Lindsay Whiteman double, knocking in Ashlyn Piekarski and Kyndra Pilant who singled and doubled, respectively, to take the lead back at 6-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Shadyside drilled back-to-back singles to get things started, and the Tigers sent the game into extra innings with a run scoring single.
Magnolia’s Alex Berger drilled a one-out single and scored on a Tharp double to give the visitors a one run lead heading into the bottom of the eighth.
After a strikeout, the Tigers singled, stole a base and scored on a single. Another Tiger batter singled , stole two bases and scored on a walk-off single by Kayla Smith to end the game.
Tharp took the loss from the circle, striking out four in eight innings of work. Brill fought off a two-game slump, singled twice, doubled and smacked a grand-slam home-run, while knocking home five runs to lead the Magnolia offense. Pilant and Whiteman each singled and doubled, with Whiteman bring home two teammates.
In addition, Tharp singled twice, while Piekarski, Berger and Lauren Anderson each added singles. Berger also scored twice.
