River Track Teams Place Fourth In Season Opener
Both the River Pilot boys and girls track teams placed fourth in the Ohio Valley Track League opening meet in Shadyside March 27.
In the boys 4×800 meter relay event, the River foursome of Justin Fisher, Jay Caretti, Neiko Mancini and Matt Vello Berte placed fourth to Shadyside (9:24.58) in a time of 11:06.39.
In the girls 100 meter hurdles, Carmen Hinerman placed first with a time of 17.94, while in the boys (18.74), Alex Refener (19.87) placed third and Edgard Duban (21.56) placed sixth.
In the boys 100 meter dash (11.64), Michael Johnson finished fifth with a time of 12.67. In the girls 4×200 meter relay (1:58.62), the Pilots team of Julianna Taylor, Alli Long, Kim Connors and Lacey Speece finished fourth at (2:16.71), along with the boys (1:41.94) team of Alex Rufener, Ethan Goudy, Jay Caretti and Neilko Mancini finished in (1:50.07).
Returning to the distance events from the sprints was Livi Beard who blew everyone away in the 1,600 meter run with a time of (6:11.84) for first place. In the girls 4×100 meter relay (57.01), the Pilots’ foursome of Belle Schaum, Lacey Speece, Alli Long and Cortny Sapp finished sixth (1:05.45). In the boys race (48.92), the Pilots boys team of Michael Johnson, Ethan Goudy, Daniel Sweguard and Cole Hinerman (51.17) placed fourth.
In the boys 400 meter dash, Cooper Brown (53.47) went from distance runner in cross country, turned to sprinting and finished first, while Cooper VanCamp (55.50) placed sixth. Brown went on to claim the 200 meter dash with a solid time of 24.26, and made it a clean sweep, winning the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.27, while teammate Cole Hinerman (1:00.96) finished in fifth place.
Carmen Hinerman (53.47) won the girls 300 meter hurdles to win both her hurdle events, while Alex Rufener (46.82) won the boys, and Cooper VanCamp (54.50) sixth.
In the 3,200 meter run (12:56.46) Livi Beard (13:16.65) placed third, while the girls 4×400 meter relay (4:39.16) team of Allison Bennett, Alli Long, Julianna Taylor and Jenna Tucker (5:24.56) finished in fifth place.
In the boys (1:10.99), the Pilot team of Payton VanCamp, Alex Rufener, Edgard Duban and Daniel Sweguard (1:18.16) finished in third place.
In the boys long jump (5-8), Cole Hinerman (5-4) finished second, while in the girls discus (89-6), Allison Bennett’s toss (65-00.50) was good enough for sixth place. In the girls shot-put (27-2) Madison Shiflett (24-1) placed fourth.
