Isaly, Witschey Earn Weekly Honors
We have a lot of athletes that played well enough to win this week’s title of “Athlete of the Week,” but it will only be the Pilots’ Lukas Isaly, and the Blue Eagles’ Damon Witschey as this week’s winners.Isaly was the Pilots’ Mr. Consistent. He scored a game-high 32points, including a pair of three-pointers. He was also 14-17 from the charity stripe. He also had 12 steals for a double-double in leading the Pilots to a back-to-back Division IV Sectional Championship.
Witschey scored (294 points) in the boys division and first place in the boys individual to help lead the Blue Eagle archery team to a second place finish in JMHS team archery tournamentThe Eagles’ Logan Riggs a runaway winner last week, and she just missed it this week, earning Special Honorable Mention. She scored the game-winning free throws once again, while compiling 10 points, that included a pair of triples. She dished out five assists in helping Magnolia punch their ticket to the state tournament.
Also earning Special Honorable Mention was teammate Kyndra Pilant. She posted a double-double,16 points and 15 rebounds, while making four blocks and three steals. Earning Honorable Mention was the Lady Eagles’ Kennedy Parsons; she scored 13 points, including a trio of three pointers, while the boys’ Leo Herrick paced the Blue Eagles boys team with 18 markers, that included two baskets from beyond the arch, in a loss to St Marys in their sectional.
Also earning Honorable Mention is the Lady Eagles’ Kameron Melott. She scored (277 points) for a third place finish in the girls division.During the winter season only high schools teams from Hundred, Magnolia, Paden City, River and Valley are eligible to win, and the winners can’t win again until sectionals, as well as OVAC and Mason-Dixon, and H.I.T. Tournament.
