Isaly and Underwood Named Athletes of the Week
This week’s Athletes of the Week are Lukas Isaly and Caitlyn Underwood.
The River Pilots’ Jim-Dandy, Lukas Isaly, scored 26 points, including five three pointers, that pushed the Pilots’ all-time male scoring leader to 2,005 as Isaly helped lead River to a 54-24 victory over the Toronto Red Knights in the OVAC Class-AA semi-final match-up.
Not only did Isaly reach the 2,000 point plateau; he became only the 18th OVAC player to score 2,000 points.
Against Steubenville Catholic in the OVAC championship game, Isaly was – again – the man with the plan. He not only helped the River boys team win their first OVAC title since 1973, he helped win their school-record 21 games, too. He tallied a game-high 31 points, that included three bonus bombs, and was 8-8 at the line, earning him Player of the Game.
Also making the claim for Athlete Of The Week is the Valley Lumberjills’ Caitlyn Underwood.
She secured a double-double, with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while making a pair of free throws with 2.8 seconds left, giving the Valley Lumberjills a 45-44 victory over St Marys. She also added a pair steals and dished out four assists.
During the winter season, only high schools teams from Hundred, Magnolia, Paden City, River and Valley are eligible to win, and the winners can’t win again until sectionals, as well as OVAC and Mason-Dixon, and H.I.T. Tournament.
