The Lady Wildcats, fresh off a third win of the season, hosted Clay-Battelle on Jan. 18, in hopes of picking up another win. The visitors, however, had other ideas. Clay-Battelle took a 11-4 first quarter lead, increased it to 28-10 at the half, before going home with a 52-25 win.
Paden City had trouble finding the basket in the first quarter and didn’t score until the three minute mark. The Cee-Bee’s were cold as well and got their first basket with four minutes to go in the quarter. From there, it was all Clay-Battelle. They started hitting from the outside and ended with nine three-pointers, to just two for the Wildcats. The visitors also hit 11 two-point baskets, to eight for the Wildcats.
Hannah Loy was the only double-figure scorer for Paden City with 10 markers. Backing her up was Paige Leonard with five points and Erin McIntrye with a three ball. Madison Knight, Raven Fulks and Abbe Stackpole each hit a bucket, while Skylar Fulks knocked in 1-2 foul shots.
For the Cee-Bee’s, Sellars had 12 on four three-point shots, and Stewart added 10.
The Wildcats fell to 3-8 as they hit the midway point of the season. “We’re still working hard. We run the floor, go after the loose balls, and do a lot of things right, but we aren’t making shots. Ultimately, you have to get the ball in the basket. We’ll keep trying,” said Paden City Coach Allen Miller.
