Lumberjills Put Away Wildcats

The Valley Lumberjills outscored Paden City 29-9 in the second half and defeated the out-manned Wildcat Squad, 62-30, on Dec. 29, inside VHS’ gymnasium.

The first half stayed reasonably close, with the ‘Jills holding a slim 13-6 advantage after one period, and 33-21 at the break.

Valley jumped out to a 8-0 lead with their heart and soul, Sophie Palmer, leading the way with four markers. Up and coming star, McKinlee Yoho, also provided four points to give the hosts a 13-6 lead.

In the second period, Palmer scored 14 of the ‘Jills 20 points, while the ‘Cats Hannah Loy paced her team with eight points, including one of her two three-pointers. Teammate Erin McIntire tallied the other seven markers to keep the Wildcats within striking distance, 33-21 at the break.

Valley didn’t wait very long to break the game though, out-scoring Paden City, 13-3. Loy scored the Wildcats’ only points with a long-range bonus bomb. Palmer netted seven of the ‘Jills 13-points to start pulling away. Valley led 46-24 with eight minutes remaining in the game.

The ‘Jills Jenna Dallison paced Valley with six points in the period, while Tessa Dudgeon added five points, that included a basket from beyond the arch to lead the charge. Raven Fulks scored four of the Wildcats six fourth quarter points.

Palmer was the game’s top scorer with 18 points, including five baskets from beyond the arch. She picked up yet another double-double, pulled down 10 rebounds, and made three steals. Jenna Dallison also had a double-double. She scored 11 points, 10 rebounds, and blocked a shot. Yoho followed with nine points, and made two steals, while Dudgeon tacked on six points, including one from long range. Dudgeon grabbed five rebounds.

Rachel Bates had a productive night, scoring five points, including a basket from beyond the arc. She also pulled in five boards and made three steals, while Jamie West swished a two-pointer and a free throw for all the Valley points.

Loy paced Paden City with 13 points, that included three bonus bombs, while McIntire netted nine points. Paige Leonard and and Fulks each scored four points for all the Paden City scoring.
