Dragons Put Away Lumberjacks

The Cameron Dragons outscored the Valley Lumberjacks,46-17, in the two middle quarters, helping to put-away Valley, 70-44, Jan. 3. The basketball action occurred inside the Dragons Den in Cameron.

Levi Streets opened the third quarter with a basket from beyond the arc, but the Dragons would score the next dozen points, and 18 of the next 20 points after, to slam the door shut on any Lumberjacks rally.

Levi Streets paced the Lumberjacks with 21 points, while Ethan Greathouse followed with six-points, to pace the Lumberjack attack.

Peyton Bassett and Tyler Kocher each tallied four markers, while Levi Anderson and Jerry Evatt each tacked on three points.


Fourth Quarter Run Lifts Jacks Over Wildcats

Twenty was a good number for the Valley Lumberjacks in their Dec. 28 home bout with county rival Paden City. The ‘Jacks scored 20 points in the first, second and fourth periods, while coming up a deuce shot in the third period, and using a 20-8 run in the final period to get by Paden City, 78-55, in boys high school basketball action.

The Lumberjacks used a 20-13 run in the first period, and notched a deuce more in the second stanza, to give the Valley faithful a 40-31 lead at intermission.

They upped it up a deuce in the third period as well, before going on their 20-8 fourth period run, to get the win. Levi Streets led five double-digit Valley scorers with 21-points, that included a trio of three-pointers, while hauling in 10 rebounds. Tyler Kocher added 14 points and grabbed just as many rebounds, while Peyton Bassett tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Valley Lumberjacks.

In addition, Avery Kincade and Levi Anderson evenly split 20 points, that included four baskets from beyond the arch. Evan Greathouse launched a bonus bomb, while Jerry Evatt sank a deuce and free throw, respectively.

Caden Palmer sank a deuce, while Abe Satterfield swished a free-throw for Valley.

Garrett Cross led all-Paden City scorers with 17 points, while Seth Bucher and Anthony Newman evenly split 14 points, with Newman sinking a pair of triples.

Matt Saxon scored 11 markers, that included a three-ball, while Trey Slider was held to seven markers, including one basket from beyond the arch. Ty Cain netted a pair of two-pointers for all the Paden City scoring.
