Streets Sparks ’Jacks Big Comeback

The Lumberjacks #21 Peyton Bassett and the Cee-Bees #32 Gunner Brummage lock together to get in position to get the rebound, while the Cee-Bees #22 Tanner Hennen looks on.
The Valley Lumberjacks came out of the gate Dec. 21 like they had too much Christmas cookies, falling behind 11-0 to start the game. But, a little Christmas miracle – in the name of Levi Street – pulled Valley through as they came away with a 55-53 win against Clay-Battelle.
After falling behind by double digits, for the biggest part of the first quarter, in jumped Streets as he scored all of the Lumberjacks’ 12 first quarter points, closing the gap to 20-12 by period’s end.
Clay-Battelle held Streets to only a deuce in period two, but Avery Kinkade and Levi Anderson each tickled the twine from beyond the arch, while Kinkade add two free throws, and one by Ryan Baker to pull the ‘Jacks to within 28-22 by half-time.
In the third period, the ‘Jacks made a Christmas miracle and took control by period’s end, outscoring the Cee-Bees, 17-7, to take a 39-35 lead with Kinkade, Streets and Ethan Greathouse doing all the scoring. However, if it wasn’t for the defensive effort by these three – as well as Tyler Kocher and Peyton Bassett – with their rebounding that started many fast-break that ended in points were the reason for the turnaround.
In the fourth period, the tempers started to get to the ‘Jacks as both Bassett and Kocher left the game, with the game still to close for comfort, aided by a technical foul and giving the Cee-Bees hope of turning things around.

A late basket and two made free throws by Streets, and a three ball by Greathouse, all but sealed the deal. But five late missed charity tosses pulled the Cee-Bees to within a deuce on a lay-in at the buzzer.
Streets led all scorers with 26 points, that included two long-range bonus bombs, while adding seven rebounds, six steals and two blocked shots – to go along with four assists – paced the Lumberjacks. Greathouse and Kincade both scored 11 points that included three three-balls.
In addition, Anderson scored four points, while Kocher scored a deuce, and Ryan Baker a free throw.
