By Staff | Dec 6, 2017

Paden City’s Hannah Loy outscored the Hundred team, 25-20, to lead Paden City to a 60-20 mutual season-opening victory on Nov. 28, inside the Bob Burton Gymnasium.

To open the game, one could see the year-long rust as the Wildcats missed eight layups, and the Hornets had a hard time holding on to the ball in the first several minutes before the young Wildcats started to heat up.

Loy scored the game’s first bucket two minutes into the opening quarter, but neither team could hold on to the slippery basketball, and missed bunnies until the ‘Cats Paige Leonard swished one from the top of the key at the five minute mark. One minute later, a beautiful give-and-go from Leonard to Loy paid off with a deuce. Loy added two made free-throws to give the home team a 6-0 lead.

Hundred finally scored its first points of the night at the 3:33 mark with a rebound put-back by Katherine Henderson. But Paden City’s Bre Henthorn and Loy each sank a deuce to push their advantage back-up to 12-2.

The Hornets’ Mahalya Britton put back a miss to end the first quarter with Paden City on top, 18-4. Britton opened the second quarter with a pair of two-pointers, while Loy sank a jumper in between baskets.

A good-looking Wildcat freshman Erin McIntire engineered her way through the Hornets’ defense for a basket, before Madison Knight sank a free throw. Kayla Mathews put one in for Hundred, while Loy closed out the first half with a deuce, three-ball and dished off an assist to give the home team a 30-10 first half lead.

Loy opened the second half with a steal and a basket, and followed up with a pair of free-throw tosses and a two pointer. Raven Fulks knocked in a jumper before Abbe Stackpole scored three straight baskets, before McIntire netted a freebie at the three minute mark of the third period, with a 47-10 advantage.

Hundred’s freshman center Britton finally put Hundred on the board at 1:21 on another rebound put-back, but that is all the Hornets would get in the third period, while the ‘Cats closed out the third with a Madison Knight bucket at the buzzer for a 49-12 lead with eight minutes remaining.

The Hornets’ Emily Metz scored the fourth period’s first points, while McIntire countered with a nice jumper.

A nice cross-over dribble by Stackpole ended with a nifty two-pointer before teammate Skylar Fulks and Loy finished off a 8-0 run.

The Hornets outscored the ‘Cats, 6-3 to end the game.

Loy paced all-scorers with a game-high 25 points, that included a three-ball, while Stackpole followed Loy with a dozen markers. Knight scored five points, while Henthorn, McIntire and Leonard each contributed a pair of two-pointers for the Wildcats. Skylar and Raven Fulks each sank a deuce for all the Paden City scoring.

Britton paced Hundred with eight points, while Henderson and Metz each tacked on five points and Matthews swished a jumper for all the Hundred scoring
