Second Half Keys Doddridge 35-7 Victory Over Valley
The Doddridge Bulldogs scored a touchdown with seven ticks left in the first half, taking a 14-0 lead into the locker room. The stamina continued as the Bulldogs went on to squeeze out a 35-7 victory over the Valley Lumberjacks, Oct. 20 in Bulldogs territory. The Bulldogs’ win hurts the ‘Jacks chances in making the WVSSAC Class-A playoffs.
The Bulldogs scored on a 65-yard touchdown pass that took the air out of the Lumberjacks to give the hosts a comfy 21-0 advantage early in the third period.
Valley avoided the shutout when the Lumberjacks’ Austin Lowe took a Tyler Kocher eight-yard pass to complete a five-play 65-yard drive, ending with a Peyton Bassett PAT kick.
Kocher led the Lumberjacks with 24-yards rushing, while Levi Streets tacked on four yards. Kocher tossed for 69-yards on only six completions, with Bassett grabbing one for 35-yards, and Gavin Streets two snags for 15-yards. Travis Leek caught one pass for 11-yards, while Lowe hauled in the nine-yard TD catch. Levi Streets caught the last pass for five yards.
Lowe paced the Valley defense with nine tackles, while Kocher and Coby Kincaide each made eight tackles.
Kocher also made a fumble recovery, while Levi Streets and Travis Leek, each made seven tackles
Valley made six penalties for 43-yards lost, while the hosts were caught seven times for 65-yards lost. Both teams lost a fumble, while Valley was picked-off once.
The Lumberjacks need to win out to have a chance at making the playoffs, and will host Tyler Consolidated, who is also playing for their playoff lives. pm Oct. 27at Tom West Field in Pine Grove. Kick-off is scheduled at 7 p.m.
