Lumberjacks Cruise To 28-12 Victory
The Valley Lumberjacks’ Levi Streets picked up where he left off late last season – accounting for 214 yards and three touchdowns to lead Valley to a 28-12 victory over a stunned Bulldogs crowd on Friday, Aug. 25 at Tygarts Valley High School.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Lumberjacks struck first as Streets crossed the goal line on a five-yard touchdown run to give the visitors a 7-0 lead after the Peyton Bassett extra point conversion kick.
The Bulldogs followed with a score of their own with a nine-yard run, but the kick failed and the ‘Jacks kept the lead at 7-6 early in the second period.
Bassett hauled in a Streets 26-yard pass to push their advantage to 14-6 after another conversion kick. The Lumberjacks’ defense led by Bassett’s interception at midfield. Streets would later plunge into the end-zone from one-yard out, with Bassett adding the extra point kick to extend their lead to 21-6 at the break.
Neither team could punch it in, but the Lumberjacks threatened four different times in the red-zone, but lost on fumbles each time. Otherwise, the score would have been much larger.
Tygarts Valley added a 11-yard TD pass, while Valley’s Bassett tallied a 14-yard run to end the scoring.
“We had our chances to put the game away, but fumbles and untimely penalties cost us.
We will need to hold onto it better against a very tough South Harrison squad Friday night,” said Valley Head Coach Logan Miller.
Streets accounted for 214 total yards. He picked up a game-high 146 yards and a pair of touchdown runs, while passing for 68-yards on four of seven completions and a touchdown.
