First WCS Wellness 5K Held
The turnout was healthy for the July 1 Wetzel County Schools Wellness 5K Walk/Run. The event, held in conjunction with the Back Home Appalachian Arts & Music Festival, began on Main Street, New Martinsville at 7:30 a.m. The 5K Run winner was Kayla Hizer with a time of 21:20. Hizer was followed by Laura Walker, with a time of 21:28.3. Third place went to Dick Hinerman, with a time of 22:18.9.
Male 5K Winners were Dick Hinerman, 22:18.9; Rodney McWilliams, 22:27.3; and Craig Allen, 22:42.8.
Female winners were Hizer, 21:20; Walker, 21:28.3, and Kathryn Isaly, 23:47.5.
The run saw 29 participants.
In the walking category, which saw 33 participants, Alex Thorburn crossed the finish line first with a time of 30:54.4, while Valerie Slider came in second with a time of 33:56.1, and Roy Thomas placed third with a time of 34:45.9.
Male winners were Thoburn, 30:54.4; Thomas, 34:45.9, and Roger Kimble, with a time of 44:06.6.
Female winners were Slider, 33:56.1; Jeanne Davis, 35:16.8, and Laura Hill, 37:38.8.
Other 5K runners were, Kathryn Isaly, David Riggle, Joseph Semple, Patrick Gramlish, Bill Horbrock, Meghan Philip, Daryl Walker, James Allen, Crissy Mace, Santina Vigliotti, Kandy Stephen, Kandi Loy Kay, Emily Berisford, Crestyn Isaly, Linda Berisford, Pam Bosley, Grace Greene, Heather Riggle, Jan Emch and Warren Grace.
