Spotlight: Logan Riggs, Magnolia
This week, we are shining the spotlight on Magnolia High School’s multi-sports athlete Logan Riggs.
“Riggzy” is her nickname that she has carried with her throughout her high school sports career.
Riggs is the Magnolia High School girls’ soccer starting goalkeeper but comes out to play a little offense and defense. She is also a varsity spot-starter on the basketball team.
Soccer and basketball wasn’t enough, as Riggs is also a top female tennis player. She has earned the Wetzel Chronicle’s “Player of the Week” title in basketball, soccer, and tennis.
Riggs plays each sport as hard and as competitively as the others. She gives her best every game or match, whatever sport she is playing.
We asked Riggs some questions so that our readers could get to know her a bit better:
What do you want people know about you, that most people didn’t know? I’m someone that is very competitive when it comes to sports, but I’m always the goofiest one to keep a positive attitude on the court to keep things going smooth.
What is it about soccer, basketball and tennis excites you as an athlete? All three of those sports have adrenaline that you need. Whether it’s match point in tennis, one more point to get ahead in basketball, or being in the goal in soccer, they all give me a rush.
If you could go back in time who would you want to hang out with? My grandpa, he always supported us kids in our athletics and always had stories to tell.
What one word describes yourself as a person, player and teammate? As a person, I’d say open-minded; as a player, dedicated, and as a teammate, a leader.
If there is a fire and there is only one thing that you can save one thing, what would it be and why? I’d save my family. My family has been through it all with me, and supports every decision I make in my life.
What is your favorite thing to do when you get ready for a game? Being goofy and letting my nerves ease down while listening to music has to be my favorite pregame.
What do you like to do when your not playing sports? I like to work and take adventures with my friends, and see things that we can find.
If you could pick any two players that you play against, to be on your team, who would they be? Sophie Palmer, for sure; she’s a great athlete and can really run the floor in basketball. I would also choose Cassie Tallman. She is also another great athlete, and in basketball she’s hard to stop.
If you could write your headline after winning a state title, or OVAC Championship, what would headline read? Magnolia Lady Eagles bring home the win, unexpectedly.
