Hornets Win First Game Of The Season

Hundred Softball Head Coach Chipper Goff, and his daughter Madeline, won their first high school softball game as a coach and pitcher April 10 at Jefferson Christian. The final score was 19-5. by the score of, 19-Brittany Tustin led off the game with a walk and two stolen bases, before Sydney Hoyle walked and took second without a throw. They both scored on a Madeline Goff single.

Goff stole two bases, and would score on a Jefferson throwing error, to give the visitors a 3-0 lead after one half-inning of play.

Goff set the home team down in order, striking out one and inducing a pair of harmless ground-outs.

Emily Matthews opened the second with a solid single, up the gut, and two stolen bases. Taylor Fetty reached on another Jefferson miscue and moved up a base. Hoyle beat out an infield single, while Goff, Lexi Bragg each had a RBI with a walk.

With the bases juiced, Savannah Horner singled in two teammates. She then stole a base, and Savannah Bragg was hit by a pitch (HBP) to load the bases once more. Tori Hawkins was also HBP that plated a run. Another RBI walk by Matthews and a two-run base error tallied two more runs to give the Hornets a 11-0 lead.

Jefferson would score five runs in the third, on four walks, one-hit, four stolen bases, and one Hundred error. Goff struck-out three and had a HBP.

Hundred got the mercy-rule in the third, scoring eight more runs with the help of seven walks, two errors and singles by Matthews and Hoyle.

Goff struck-out six of the nine Jefferson outs, while walking five, and got her first win from the circle. From the plate, she singled and knocked in four runs, while Horner singled and plated three. Matthews and Hoyle singled twice, and plated two each.

In addition, Tustin knocked in three runs, while Bragg, Hawkins, Carson Baker,Taylor and Madison Fetty each tallied none RBI.

“I’m so excited for my girls, they have worked very hard to get a win for their school,” said Coach Goff. “Emily and Sydney really came up big for us tonight at the plate, and Madeline pitched as well as she every has to get us this win. The monkey is now off our backs, and we will savor this for a day and get back to work tomorrow.”
