Valley Demolishes Buffalo, 56-37 In H.I.T. Consolation
The Valley Lumberjacks raced out to a 20-12 first period lead, and never looked back in demolishing Buffalo, 56-37, for third place in the Division I of the West Virginia Hometown Invitational Tournament, inside RCB High School Gymnasium.
The Lumberjacks’ Dylan Irvin and Alex Midcap scored 42 of the ‘Jacks 56 points, including six three-point three-balls. They also grabbed 47 of the teams 60 rebounds, and all five of the teams six blocks to lead the Lumberjack statistics.
Midcap was the top ‘Jack with 22 points and 10 rebounds including five baskets from beyond the arc, while Irvin recorded a double-double with 20 points, and cleaned the glass with 26 rebounds, and rejected five Buffalo shots.
Levi Streets had an all-around nice game, he tallied 11 markers, while grabbing five rebounds, and dishing out four assists, and making two steals.
In addition, Peyton Bassett scored three points and hauled in three boards. Tyler Kocher didn’t score, but he grabbed three rebounds. Ethan Greathouse contributed two rebounds, while making one steal, and dishing out one assist. Austin Lowe came off the bench to grab a rebound.
Irvin was selected as the MVP of the game. He had tallied 20 points, hauled in 26 rebounds, while making one steal and blocking five shots.
For the tournament finale he had 26 rebounds that was previously held by Cameron Dragons Logan Routt with 25. And for the tournament he had 90 rebounds for a 22.5 average.
Meanwhile, Midcap tallied 22 points in the consolation game for the Lumberjacks, that included five treys, and was 13-15 for 87 percent at the free throw line for a new H.I.T. Record.
Blue Dons Outlasts Lumberjacks, 63-62
Weirton Madonna overcame a five-point deficit late in the game to gain an exciting 63-62 victory over the Valley Lumberjacks Feb. 7 inside Valley High School Gymnasium.
Madonna took a 17-13 first quarter lead, but the Lumberjacks, behind the scoring of Levi Streets (9-points), Dylan Irvin (6-
points), and Alex Midcap (4-points), tallied 19 of the teams 21 points to grab a 34-32 advantage at the break.
However, Madonna would answer in the third, outscoring Valley 15-11 to retake the lead at 47-45 with eight minutes remaining.
The Lumberjacks would outscore the Blue Dons in the fourth, but blew a late five-point lead and lost by a point.
Alex Midcap and Levi Streets each netted 18 points, including three baskets from beyond the arc, while Midcap also added eight rebounds and made one steal. Streets contributed 10 rebounds and dished out seven assists for a double-double. Dylan Irvin also had a double-double scoring 12 points and pulling down 13 rebounds and blocking two shots.
In addition, Peyton Bassett posted eight markers, while Tyler Kocher sank four, and Ethan Greathouse a deuce.
Joey Ewusiak led all-scorers with 20 points, while Tavon Jeter followed with 18 points to pace the Madonna team.
