Wildcats Triumph Over Hornets

Paden City used a 35-11 first half lead and coasted to a 64-37 victory over Hundred Jan. 26 inside the Bob Burton Gymnasium.

The Hornets Cody Soles picked off an errant Wildcat pass and turned it into a 2-0 lead to start the game.

However, the Wildcats raced back to grab a 13-2 advantage with the help of three bonus bombs before the Hornets Danny Stewart picked off another Wildcat errant pass and laid one off the glass at the 1:30 mark of the first period.

The Wildcats’ Aaron Heasley and the Hornets Anderson finished out the period with a deuce and a pair of freebies, respectively, to end the first quarter with Paden City on top, 15-6. Heasley paced the Wildcats offense with eight markers, that included two baskets from beyond the arch, while teammate Trey Slider ripped the cords on a long triple to lead the Wildcats.

The second half started with a Hayden Hizer three-ball, while Heasley scoring eight of the Wildcats next 10 points to give the red-hot Wildcats a 28-6 lead to start the second period.

Matt Saxson scored a deuce off a Heasley out-of-bounds pass, before Stewart tallied the Hornets first points of the period with 2:41 left in period two.

Saxson drilled a long three-ball, right before the Hornets Travis McCoy netted a deuce, while Heasley finished the scoring with a pair of free throws for a 35-11 Paden City lead at the break. The Wildcats didn’t commit a turnover in the second stanza, while the Hornets miss-handled six in he first quarter and only four in the second period. Heasley scored 10 points in the second period to give him 18 markers up to this point.

In the second half, the Hundred Hornets picked up the scoring a tad more with Stewart drilling the games first points, but the ‘Cats would go on a 10-2 run before the Hornets Logan Norris tickled the twine from beyond the arch at the half-way point of period three.

Stewart tallied a free throw and another three-ball before the ‘Cats A.J. Weber put back a miss and Trey Slider a triple with two minutes remaining.

Devon Kimble sank a deuce before Slider tickled the twine from beyond the arch to end three periods of play with Paden City leading 53-25 with one quarter remaining. Slider paced the Wildcats with a pair of three-balls while Heasley added five, and Stewart cashing in with six points to lead the Hundred scoring.

Soles tallied a deuce to open the final period, while Hizer answered with a pair of freebies. Stewart sank a three-ball and then pulled down a rebound and went coast-to-coast for a lay-in.

Heasley scored his sixth basket from beyond the arc, but Soles and Stewart followed with a deuce and Stewart’s third triple of the night. Paden City tallied 6-6 free throws to end the game.

Heasley led all scorers with 26 points, including six baskets from beyond the arc, while grabbing seven boards, while Slider followed with nine of his points from beyond the arch. Hizer posted seven points, seven rebounds and made two steals to lead the Paden City attack. In addition, Saxson delivered five points, while Weber, Garrett Cross and Evan Newman each sinking four points. Marcus Allen sank a three-ball, while Seth Bohrer netted a deuce.

For Hundred, Stewart provided a team-high 21 points, while contributing six rebounds and making four steals to lead the Hornets. Soles followed with six points, grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and rejecting a shot. In addition, Kimble netted five points, while Logan Norris sank a triple, and Travis McCoy contributed a deuce, and hauled in seven boards.


Hornets Fall Little Short

Hundred’s Danny Stewart paced the Hundred Hornets with 14 points and six assists, but it wasn’t enough to get past Union, 69-50 in Hometown Invitational boys basketball action Jan. 28 in Hundred. Cody Soles followed with 13 points for the Hornets, while Travis McCoy added six points and hauled in 16 rebounds, and Tyler Norris grabbed eight.
