Delaney and Hizer Win “Player of The Week”
The Blue Eagles’ Jordan Delaney and the Wildcats’ Hayden Hizer are this week’s players of the week.
Delaney paced the Lady Eagles with a team-high 21 points, that included four baskets from beyond the arch, while making four steals, grabbing four rebounds, and dishing out four assists in the heartbreaking loss to St. Marys.
The Wildcats’ Hizer was all over the floor in a 73-69 loss to highly ranked Bishop Donahue. Hizer set the Bob Burton Gymnasium on fire with seven baskets from beyond the arch in his team-high 23 points. He also dished out six assists, grabbed six rebounds and made six steals.
Earning Special Mention was the Lumberjacks’ Alex Midcap. He contributed a double-double for the Lumberjacks with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the Lumberjacks’ loss to the Cameron Dragons.
Also earning Special Mention is the River Pilots’ Jordan Doty, who scored 20 points, including three from beyond the arch in the Pilots’ 63-53 victory over Bridgeport.
Earning Honorable Mention is the Blue Eagles’ Brooks Parsons. Parsons scored 10 of his career-high 16 points in the first quarter of a 71-58 victory over Ritchie County.
Also earning Honorable Mention is the Wildcats’ Matt Saxson. Saxon scored 13 points, and pulled down six rebounds for the ‘Cats against Bishop Donahue.
During the winter season, athletes that win Players Of The Week can only win once during the regular season. Only athletes from Hundred, Magnolia, Paden City, River and Valley can win Players of the Week. The students athletes are selected by the sports staff at the Wetzel Chronicle.
