Johnson Named MHS Softball Coach
The Magnolia Lady Eagles will open their softball season this spring with a new coach whose playing career has spanned high school, travel ball and three years of collegiate play with the West Liberty University Lady Hilltoppers.
Angela Johnson, a native of Wheeling, hurled Wheeling Park High School to the 2009 softball semifinals, was named 4-A Player of the Year, as well as to the first teams All-State and All-Conference OVAC. She also captured All-West Virginia Conference honors while at WLU.
In addition, Johnson has extensive experience coaching pitching, fielding and hitting clinics for the Wheeling and New Martinsville recreation departments and has always had a strong desire to go into coaching.
She is a 2014 graduate of WLU with degrees in mathematics and in secondary education. At MHS, she teaches statistics, trigonometry and math 3.
Among her first year softball objectives is to help her team “Better understand the game and fall in love with it as I have. I want to build their confidence and make them tough.” Although a rather young team, she will have several experienced players returning to the 2017 season. Full roster and schedule will be published in the preview of spring sports.
