With 10 starters sidelined with illness and injuries, the Parkersburg Catholic Crusaders had their way with Valley Lumberjacks, winning, 41-0 at Parkerburg Big Red Stadium on Saturday evening.

The short-handed Lumberjacks, played the Crusaders tough in the opening stanza limiting them to nine points. However, Parkersburg Catholic would scored three touchdowns in the second period to hold a 30-0 lead after one half of play.

The Crusaders kept up the onslaught in the third period humbling the young ‘Jacks with a pair of touchdowns in the third period before ending the fourth with only one touchdown.

“We played as hard as we could, I don’t want to make excuses but we were short-handed with 10 starters not available and got to use a lot of our younger players,” said Valley Head Coach Logan Miller.

Junior quarterback Tyler Kocher completed six passes for 70 yards to lead the Lumberjacks offense, while Travis Leek paced the ground game with 44 yards, and Levi Streets, 24 yards.

Alex Midcap hauled in three Kocher passes for 33 yards, while Peyton Bassett and Ryan Baker each snatched one for 15 and 10 yards, respectively.

Valley is off next week, and with the added rest, the ‘Jacks will return to the grid-iron Oct. 14 at Frontier Local, with kick-off set for 7 p.m.
