Valley Tastes Defeat Against South Harrison
The South Harrison Hawks took advantage of six Valley Lumberjack turnovers to beat the Lumberjacks, 41-6, on Sept. 2 in South Harrison.
The Lumberjacks stubbed their toe giving the Hawks precious field position four of their six turnovers, while losing their top ground gainer Matthew Throckmorton, last weeks Players Of The Week winner to a broken ankle early in the second half.
The Hawks would use this to grab a 34-6 lead at the half, but the never say die Lumberjacks regrouped and held the running Hawks to only one second half touchdown.
The Lumberjacks’ Tyler Kocher connected with Dylan Irvin on a 10-yard touchdown reception, while passing for 108 yards, and eight yards on the ground. Throckmorton tacked on a team-high 12 yards before exiting the game early in the second stanza before breaking his ankle, and Levi Streets, accounted for 10 yards.
Irvin caught three passes for 46 yards and a touchdown, while Throckmorton added 19 yards on a pair of snatches. Streets grabbed three for 29 yards, while Travis Leek caught one pass for seven yards.
The Lumberjacks moved the chains nine times to a dozen for the Hawks, while losing six turnovers to only one for the hosts.
It doesn’t get any easier for the Lumberjacks as they must lick their wounds and regroup to take on the Dragons Sept. 9 at Cameron at 7 p.m.
