Dragons Take Sting Out of Hornets, 54-0
The Cameron Dragons scored 32 first quarter points and went on to defeat Hundred 54-0 Aug. 26 at Cosgray Field in Hundred.
After no high school football two seasons ago, and only a junior varsity schedule last season, the Hornets were ready to rock and roll on their nice looking standing room only Cosgray Field. However, the Dragons took the sting out of the Hornets, with 32 first quarter points and could only fill the excitement flow towards the visitors side-lines. But, the young and hungry Hornets didn’t give up and would hold the Dragons to only one score in the second period, two in the third and none in the fourth period.
Offensively, the Hornets did score a touchdown on a 85 yard bomb from Danny Stewart to Isaiah Jobes, but a clip brought it back and the Dragons would hold. Stewart was 2-4 for 117 yards, with Jobes gaining 85 yards on his catch, and Justin Pletcher 32 yards on his. Stewart rushed for 46 yards, while Jobes gained 35 yards on the ground.
Pletcher and Tyler Simms each recorded 20 yards rushing, while Chase Sturm netted 15 yards.
Defensively, Sturm led the way with a team-high four tackles.
“We were snake-bitten, but we didn’t quit and the boys learned a lot in defeat. We will work on a few things and get better each day and keep plugging away,” said Hundred Head Coach Gregory Hostetler.
“It will not get any better as Bishop Donahue will visit Cosgray Field Friday night, with kick-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
