Magnolia Golf Team Opens Season on Fire
The Magnolia golf team started the 2016 high school golf season on fire at the Pines Country Club in Morgantown, placing third Aug. 10. MHS senior Peyton Moore won Medalist with a 73 on the 18 hole match; he birdied the last three holes. Freshman teammate Trey Blain shot an 82, while senior Drew Herrick shot a 110, and junior William Nice shot 112.
The next day, the Eagles went to Clarksburg and played against 24 teams in the high school Callaway series tournament at Bel Meadows.
Moore shot a sizzling 77 and finished in the top 10 best scores out of 106 golfers, while Blain finished in 35th place with an 85. In addition, Herrick shot a 102, while William Nice ended with a 112.
The Blue Eagles won at Sistersville Aug. 15, beating River, Tyler, Paden City and Parkersburg Catholic. Moore was medalist with a 37, while Blain shot 39. Herrick shot 42, and Nice 47. In addition, Olivia Mensore shot 54.
Blain topped all scorers with a 37 to earn medalist to help Magnolia (165) with victories over Union Local (217), Bishop Donahue (188) and Tyler Consolidated (221) at Riverside Fairway Aug. 18.
Moore finished with a 38, while Herrick finished with a 43, and Nice a 47.
Noah Miller paced the Silver Knights with a 50, while teammates Cheyanne Morris (52), Gavin Morris (56) and Mack Gibbs (63) followed, respectively.
After a match with Tyler and Paden City Monday at Sistersville Country Club, the Eagles will take on Donahue, St. John and St. Clairsville at the Crispin Course at Oglebay Park Aug. 25.
