Delaney, McAdams, Cain Named Players of Week
With the sports season coming to a close, we have several athletes that deserved the “Players Of The Week” honors this week.
It’s rather difficult not to put the Lumberjacks’ Tucker Cain and the Eagles’ Jordan Delaney in this week along with Magnolia’s Tanner McAdams.
Cain won the pole vault, high jump and long jump in this year’s WVSSAC state track meet and finished second in the high points category. He also named first team USA All-American in the high jump when he recently jumped (6-8) in the Mason-Dixon Championships to lead the Valley Lumberjacks to their fourth straight Mason-Dixon Conference championship.
Delaney won state titles in 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs, while placing fifth in the 800-meter run. She also helped her 4×800 meter team finish a close second. She earned four medals at the state championships and finished third in the high-point category.
McAdams helped Magnolia defeat last year’s sectional champions Paden City on the mound at at the plate. From the hill, McAdams tossed a complete game six-hitter, striking out nine, and at the plate he had a double and two singles, while knocking in a run.
During the spring sports season, players can only win “Player Of The Week” honors once during the regular season, with athletes from Hundred, Magnolia, Paden City, River and Valley the only teams being recognized. The student athletes are selected by the sports staff at Wetzel Chronicle.
