Neff and Bucher Are Players of the Week
With the high school spring sports season nearly over, there were a few players that has stood out this past week.
The Valley Lumberjacks haven’t had the season they were hoping for. However, against the Doddridge Bulldogs, Colby Bucher had a memorable game. Even though Valley lost, 9-8, Bucher had a break-out game. He smacked two home runs, including a grand slam, plating six of the teams eight runs.
Aubrey Neff from Paden City had an exceptional sectional. She was the winning pitcher in the 8-0 win over Magnolia. She had two strikeouts, but she limited the Eagles to only one hit and didn’t walk a batter. At the plate, she singled, doubled and knocked in a run.
In the championship matchup with Cameron, she singled and smacked a home run, while plating two teammates.
During the spring sports season, players can only win “Player of the Week” honors once during the regular season, with athletes from Hundred, Magnolia, Paden City, River and Valley the only teams being recognized. The student athletes are selected by the sports staff at Wetzel Chronicle.
