Three Named Players of the Week
Again this week we had a lot of outstanding area athletes do well on the diamond, and the track field. Winning this week is one female track-runner, one softball player, and one baseball player.
The River Pilots’ Abby Caldwell was a clear winner this week. She won the 100 and 400 meter dash, as well as the 300 meter hurdles in the Wetzel, Tyler Track League event held on Tuesday, April 12.
Also at River, Livi Rose won in the girls softball. Last week, she had a single and grand-slam home-run in the Pilots’ first win over Monroe Central and then turned around and singled and doubled in their second victory over those same Lady Seminoles. She also knocked in three runs on a pair of singles in the win over Barnesville.
In baseball action, the Blue Eagles’ Brandon Mason singled, tripled, doubled twice and knocked in a run in a win over Tyler Consolidated.
During the Spring sports season, players can only win “Player of the Week” honors once during the regular-season, with athletes from Hundred, Magnolia, Paden City, River and Valley the only teams being recognized . The student athletes are selected by the Sports Staff at Wetzel Chronicle.
