PC Foundation 5K Run Set for June 4
The annual running of the Paden City Foundation 5K Run and Walk is being planned, and a new benefactor has been named for the 2016 edition of the race.
The event is cheduled for Saturday, June 4, with the start and finish line at Centennial Park on Main Street in Paden City. Race Director, Rodney McWilliams, is pleased to announce the race will once again benefit the Paden City Museum and will also raise funds for the West Virginia University Children’s Hospital.
“We are very excited to partner with the WVU Children’s Hospital this year,” McWilliams said. “Representatives from the hospital were thrilled with our offer and agreed immediately to our partnership.”
The 5K (3.1 miles) race is a major fund-raiser for the Paden City Museum each year and through the years has also provided funds for scholarships, the Cornerstone Committee projects, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
“This year, we wanted to support an organization that is closer to home and still outside the boundaries of Paden City. We want to find ways to let folks throughout West Virginia know that Paden City is a giving community and we support causes that have positive effects on children and families around our state,” McWilliams said.
“Each year, we have a wonderful group of sponsors that donate funds to help defray the costs of staging the race so the bulk of the runners’ and walkers’ entry fees can go directly to the charities. That way, the participants in the race have a real direct impact on the charity and get some great gifts and awards also.”
Sponsors include individuals and businesses such as Wesbanco, Healthy Alliance, RAM Financial, along with Ruby McWilliams. The race committee is currently accepting sponsorships. The entry fee for fee for the race is $15 (received by May 27). After May 27, through the day of the race, the entry fee is $20. Early registration is encouraged. Official race shirts will be given to race participants and overall awards will be presented to the top three Runners and Walkers (both male and female). Age division medals will be presented to the top three in each division for both run and walk (male and female).
Entry forms will be available at Wesbanco-Paden City, the Municipal offices building in Paden City, the Paden City Museum, Quinet’s Restaurant in New Martinsville and online at rivercityrunners.com (Race Calendar tab). Entry forms can also be requested by calling 304-337-8026, 304-337-9102, or 304-482-9684.
The race course is 90 percent flat and 100 percent paved and utilizes North 3rd and 2nd Avenues( from Main Street to Paden City Elementary School), Main Street, the City Park walking trail, South 2nd and 3rd Avenues and Robinson Street. Residents along these streets are kindly asked to refrain from vehicular traffic on race day from 9-10 a.m. Volunteers will monitor intersections along the race course to maintain vehicular traffic. Drivers will be required to yield to the race participants and directions of the volunteers to ensure the safety of all the race participants.
“This race is geared to runners and walkers of all experience and fitness levels,” McWilliams said. “It is a competitive race but also one that will encourage recreational runners and walkers to lace up their shoes for a very worthy cause. We want to make sure it is a great atmosphere and experience for everyone involved and especially welcome the many visitors that come to Paden City on race day.”
