Priem, Romick Are Lauded
There was an abundance of outstanding athleticism at the local high schools this past week as spring sports is now well underway. Earning “Player of the Week” honors are River Pilots hurler Rosie Romick and Eagles’ catcher/pitcher Nick Priem.
Priem had an awesome week. He pitched in Magnolia’s 13-1 win over Monroe Central, striking out four and at the plate in their 11-1 win over the same Seminoles in game two of a double-header. He plated two runs on a double and three singles, while smacking a double and a home-run plating three in a 11-4 loss to Cameron.
Romick, was a phenomenon on the hill at the plate last week. At the plate, she had eight hits, including a pair of doubles, a triple, a grand slam home run, and knocked in six runs. In the circle, she won all four games, striking out 36 batters, walking three in 24 innings of work.
During the Spring sports season, players can only be named a “Player of the Week” once during the regualr season, with athletes from Hundred, Magnolia, Paden City, River and Valley the only teams being recognized. The student athletes are selected by the Sports Staff at the Wetzel Chronicle.
