Magnolia’s Nice Finishes Third at State Tourney
Four Magnolia wrestlers headed to Huntington in a quest for a state championship, but all came away empty at the end.
The Blue Eagles’ Caleb Nice, who was 38-0 heading into the state championship with an OVAC title in the 220-pound weight class, had to compete against the very best in both Class I & II wrestlers in the state.
Nice opened up with a pin-fall over Trevor Brown of Greenbrier West; Ryan Stewart by a major decision, 12-4; pin-fall over Ethan Donley of Pikeview.
He then lost to the eventual winner Alex Daniels of Independence, 3-1; and went on to defeat Garrett Burnside of Roane County by a pin-fall for third place.
Riley Nice won his first match to Chase Stover of Herbert Hoover and lost in the quarter-finals to Tanner Harris of Independence 11-3, and lost 17-3 to Logan Bean of Webster County.
Skylar Adams lost to Austin Pumphrey and won by a fall over Tyler Martin of Nicholas County, before falling to Ethen Whitlock of Keyser. Clay Adams lost both his matches to Adam Reichard of Frankfort and Daniel Hoard of Braxton County.
Caleb Nice, Skylar Yoho, Riley Nice and Clay Adams will all be back next season.
