Magnolia Wrestlers McConaughey, Nice Selected as Players of the Week
This week’s Players of the Week are two Magnolia wrestlers – Paden McConaughey and Caleb Nice.
McConaughey is now 19-0 with all coming by way of pins, with his last two bouts coming this past weekend against Weir and Linsly to help his coach Dr. Vincent Monseau win his 400th and 401st career coaching victory. McConaughey primary wrestles at 170, but has moved up on occasions at 182 pounds. He is currently ranked fourth in the OVAC, and seventh in the state.
Nice wrestles at 220 pounds and is undefeated in 21 matches with 20 pins. He won a major decision against the former number one ranked wrestler and is currently ranked first in the OVAC and third in the state.
Special mention went to Magnolia wrestler Riley Nice. Nice is ranked seventh in the OVAC and seventh in the state at 120 pounds. He just won one of his two matches in the dual against Weir and Linsly.
Honorable mention went to a pair of Valley Lumberjacks. Tucker Cain had a team-high 24 points, including a pair of long range bonus bombs, while Dylan Irvin contributed a double-double – 20 points and 14 rebounds – to help the ‘Jacks defeat Tygarts Valley, 78-62.
During the winter sports season, players can only be named once as “Player of the Week,” with Hundred, Magnolia, Paden City, River and Valley the only teams getting recognized. Those athletes are selected by the sports staff at the Wetzel Chronicle.
