Three Named Players of Week
This week’s Players of the Week is the River Pilots’ all-time career scorer Jensen Caretti and the Wildcats’ Luke Cooper.
Caretti contributed a double-double 26 points and 13 rebounds in a 58-37 victory over Monroe Central.
The Wildcats’ Cooper tallied 24 points, that included three baskets from beyond the arc, and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for a double-double in a 57-54 victory over the Valley Lumberjacks. In the victory Cooper reached the 1,000 points plateau.
Taylor Ludewig was one of the Players of the Week winners last week, but her picture was miss-indentified so we are putting it in again this week. Ludewig, a junior point guard for Magnolia , tallied her first triple-double (13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists) of the season against the Frontier Cougars.
Special mention went to the Dylan Irvin and Tucker Cain of Valley. Irvin scored 23 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and made two steals in the 71-41 win over Clay-Battelle.
Honorable mention went to the Blue Eagles’ Mitch Winters and Brooks Parsons from Magnolia. Parsons came off the bench to score 12 points in the 93-39 victory over Tyler Consolidated, while Winters scored 19 points in the 71-59 loss to Wheeling Central.
During the winter sports season, players can only win one Players of the Week, with Hundred, Magnolia, Paden City, River and Valley the only teams getting recognized. Those athletes are selected by the sport staff at the Wetzel Chronicle.
