Hornets Catch Fire in Second Half, Top Montcalm

After only scoring 18 points in the first half against Montcalm, the Hornets put up 47 points in the second half, including 29 in the final period, to win its first game of the season 67-54 in boys basketball action.

Down 28-18 at the break, Hundred tallied 18 in the third period to cut the deficit to eight points heading into the final period of play. The Hornets exploded for 29 points to earn the come-from-behind victory. Danny Stewart led the charge with 12 points, including draining 8-8 free throws.

Holden Moore knocked down eight markers, including one basket from beyond the arc. Joe Mars added five markers, while Danny Kolat and Logan Moore each netted a deuce.

Dragons Hold-off Hornets, 64-43

Hundred had three players reach double figures to fight back from a 21-point first half deficit, but it wasn’t quite enough to get past Cameron, falling 64-43 in boys’ basketball action inside the Hornets Nest Dec. 15.

Danny Stewart paced the Hornets with 19 points, including four baskets from behind arc, while Holden Moore and Andrew King netted 16 and 13 points, respectively, including two triples apiece.

In addition, Danny Kolat netted three baskets, while Joe Mars and Dustin Morris each sank two baskets.

Ryan Clutter drilled six long-range baskets en route to a season high 31 points, while Ben Hart (18 points and 10 rebounds), and teammate Trey Routt (13 points and 10 rebounds) each added double-doubles to lead the Cameron Dragons.

Van Shoots Lights Out In Hundred

Van raced out to a 49-24 lead and never looked back in handing the Hornets a 78-56 loss Dec. 18 inside the Hornets Nest.

Before the game got underway, the lights went out in the Hornets Nest but came back right before the tip-off.

Holden Moore, Danny Stewart and Andrew King each tallied in double figures, with Moore leading the way with 19 points, Stewart 18 and King 11 points. They all three collected six rebounds, while King contributed five steals. Joe Mars added six points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Danny Kolat ended the Hornets scoring with a deuce and blocked two shots.

In the jayvee game, Hundred’s shot at the buzzer rimmed out and lost 30-29. Devin Kimble paced Hundred with 11 points, including a trio of three point baskets, while grabbing 10 rebounds.

First Quarter challenges Hornets

Danny Stewart scored 25 points, including three baskets from beyond the arc, but it wasn’t quite enough for the Hundred Hornets to get past host West Greene, 59-48, Dec. 9.

West Greene raced out to a 20-9 first period advantage, but the Hornets outscored their hosts, 28-21, in the middle quarters, before West Greene outscored Hundred, 16-11, in the decisive fourth period to get the nod.

Stewart added five rebounds and blocked four shots, while teammate Andrew King posted 15 points, including two triples. He also added a team-high five assists and made three steals.

In addition, Holden Moore sank a triple and a deuce, while dishing out three assists, making three steals and pulling down five rebounds. Joe Mars and Danny Kolat each tallied a deuce, while Kolat hauled in a game-high 13 rebounds and blocked three shots.

In the jayvee contest, West Greene nipped Hundred, 40-38. Billy Mace paced the Hornets with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Preston Kuhn and Greg Jones each sank seven points.

In addition, Tyler Norris tallied six points, pulled down seven rebounds and rejected six shots. Devin Kimble scored four points and grabbed nine boards.
