Blue Eagle support is tried and true

By Staff | Dec 2, 2015

The Magnolia Blue Eagles fan faithful has seen it all this season as their beloved Big Blue has now won 13 straight games and will be playing for its third state football championship Saturday night.

Magnolia has shut out teams, won close ones as well as come-from-behind games this season. They have seen teams that can run the ball, pass the ball and were very good defensively.

Each time the Blue Eagles came away with a victory, and each time the Blue Eagle fans have been their supporting them home or away. It has been nice to be able to host all the playoff games, but it will be something special to be traveling to Wheeling Island to pit the number one team against the number two team for all the marbles.

The only bummer is the New Martinsville Christmas Parade is being held the same time as the football game. I hope that the Chamber of Commerce could postpone the parade and hold it later.

But either way, the game will be played Saturday night. The Blue Eagle fan support has been awesome all season and, parade or not, there will be countless people cheering on the Blue Eagles.

Talking about fan support, the town of New Martinsville is loaded with good-luck posters as well as signs encouraging the team from businesses to homeowners everywhere. I have also has seen bed sheets encouraging support. Not only has all the posters and signs have been encouraging to the players, they have been tasteful as well. The MHS cheerleaders have done an amazing job promoting each game with their awesome signs, but the parents and numerous fans from Valley, Paden City, Tyler, River and Hundred have also been coming to the games and wishing the team all the success.

The work of the New Martinsville Police as well as the high school staff to keep peace at the games have been exceptional to say the least. However, there hasn’t been a need as everyone home as well as the visiting teams have been well behaved. Besides a very few student body name calling, the games have been pretty well behaved without anyone getting in trouble.

However, I just need to mention all the people that have worked so hard at the concessions from the MHS Booster Club to the Band Patrons, all the way to the ticket-takers that don’t get to be able to watch the game while doing job.

Also its been real nice to see all the press and television coverage the team has gotten throughout the past several weeks, as well as on Facebook.

Whatever happens win-lose-or-draw, its been a memorable season, and I’m just pleased to have been able to cover it, through either my pen or camera.
