River Surges Back To Sink Tyler
MIDDLEBOURNE – In a tight battle from start to finish River came from behind in the fourth quarter with a late scoring strike from Joey Flannery to Drew Dietz to come away with a 22-16 victory against Tyler Consolidated on Friday night at the Silver Knights’ home field.
The Pilots, who now stand at 5-1 on the season with their only loss coming at the hands of unbeaten Magnolia, looked to be in trouble as the Silver Knights had the ball and were driving with a little more than three minutes to play and leading 16-14.
However River tightened up on defense and held the Knights on downs at Tyler’s 37-yard line.
From there the Pilots turned to running back Lukas Isaly who picked up a first down on a fourth-and-6 pass from Flannery. Flannery then found Dietz in the corner of the end zone for six and the 2-point conversion pass from Flannery to Drew Wagnild gave the Pilots a 22-16 lead with 2:51 left to play in the game.
Tyler Consolidated returned the ensusing kick to the 40 but couldn’t move the ball and River took over on downs and ran out the clock to drop the Silver Knights to 3-3 on the season.
Isaly scored twice on a 6-yard scamper and a nice, 14-yard snag from Flannery to pace River. Flannery finished 12 of 25 passing with one interception and two touchdowns.
Tyler Anderson led the Silver Knights with 124 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. Jace Reed finished with 87 yards on 14 carries while Hogan Wells added 68 yards and two conversion runs.
River will look to keep on the winning side when it travels to Bridgeport next Friday, while the Silver Knights have an open date and look to recover from some injuries before entertaining South Harrison on Oct. 16.
